Yeah...I'm not so much a fan of the pirate icon...but it's pretty damn sweet...lol...and it's WAY better than those Jedi Icons...

My first thought was "not very "StarWars'y as icon goes" but I admit it is darn cute and somewhat fitting, so yeah, I adopted it. lol
I like the Commando icon too, but of course won't "wear" it.

By the by, anyone notice how most of these new icons look more like merit badges than, say, Guild Insignias or Clan Banners?

Hey, you are right! lol I even unconsciously used the verb "wearing" to refer to having the icon and only realised that after reading your post.
I think what cause a lot the "merit badge" feeling is the golden circle around the images.
