Sony Announces New Expansions for Star Wars Galaxies
AUSTIN, TX - Sony Online Entertainment announced the latest expansions for the massive multiplayer online game, Star Wars Galaxies today. These expansions follow the Jump to Lightspeed expansion which went live in December of last year. The first expansion will be the Galactic Civil War expansion and will contain enhancements to make the Rebellion v. Empire conflict more fun. The second planned expansion is the Combat expansion, which will include fixes for many of the combat professions in the game.
Both of these expansions were supposed to be regular Publishes, but SOE decided to turn them into expansions instead. An anonymous source is quoted as saying, "When the change was made from 'publish' to 'expansion', we had originally planned to put them both in the same expansion. But, the art department did such a great job designing packaging for both themes that we decided to seperate them into two different expansions."
Both expansions will go on sale sometime in the Fall of 2005 with a retail price of $50 each. As a side note, the Smuggler expansion will hit shelves sometime around Christmas, also with a price of $50.

I just returned from the future as well, and brought back several news items made in conjunction with this post. Here's some SOE press snippits from sometime in 2005.
Sony Online Entertainment Scraps Plans for Jedi Academy Online and Jedi Starfighter Online.
AUSTIN, TX - SOE executives announced today that plans for Jedi Academy Online games and Jedi Starfighter Online games would be permanently shelved. When asked about the reasoning behind this move, a spokesman refused to comment. However, an anonymous source within SOE told us this: "The reason these games were scrapped is due to the fact that 90% of the players in the popular massive multiplayer online (MMO), Star Wars Galaxies are either Force sensative or are already Jedi. We saw no reason to create more games that basically have the same features that already existed in SWG."
When asked to comment about players who feel that Jedi have no place in the Star Wars Galaxies timeline, and who feel forced to become Force-sensative or to follow the path of the Jedi in order to compete or have a fulfilling gaming experience within the SWG world, a SOE spokesperson called it "nonsense" and said "non-Force-sensative and non-Jedi players have just as many opertunities as the more advanced players."
We visited a LAN party of SWG players to see what the players had to say. One player told us he became a Force sensative crafter because he couldn't compete without the crafting bonuses, despite the fact that he had long been a Master Weaponsmith on his server. Another had to pick up Force-sensative combat bonuses just to survive minor skirmishes and PvP. And despite SOE's promises that the "twitch-based" flight engine of the Jump to Lightspeed expansion would not give Force-sensatives or Jedi any additional piloting abilities, many players have picked up the Flight line of Force-sensativity since it's introduction in Publish 13.2.
SOE has stopped responding to phone calls from the media.

It's funny, I wrote this post before Haden blew up the forums. It now sounds like I was quoting him. ![]()
That's the problem with time travel. You can sometimes end up in alternate timelines.
