Ditto Jackrabbit, no clamps here either. Holomail me if yo like to talk about getting the word out about a uniform hike or any other issues to spread to other Smugglers.

im only slicing 4 yet, but i think this is a good idea, one way to make it work, and to make sure that slicing 2 + 3 go against it is to stop selling molclamps on open vendors and keep them on "private" vendors where only slicing 4 and master smugglers are alowed to use em.

im totally behind the idea of consorting on slicing prices the fact that players are willing to pay, 10k for buffs, 300k for armor and 40k + for weapons, they should be willing to pay more for slices. I mean seriously buff`s is a stat improvement for 3hours we improve the weapon for as long as its used.

Please tell me you are joking about not selling molecular clamps to the new and upcoming smugglers...how are they suppose to get slicing xp if they don't have clamps and cannot garauntee a successful slice for peoples containers...I am alomost 100% positive that you used molecular clamps while grinding through slicing. Think back to when you just started slicing...would you want to have to randomly guess at all your slices and end up wrong more than half the time??? I think not and especially with containers being sold for 5k-20k each

I did not use one clamp until I got to Slicer IV. We just need to stick to our guns ... every time someone asks me to slice a container I say "Take it to a Novice Smuggler who needs the experience. If you want me to open it, I will charge you double my regular slicing fee, and the contents will not be worth the fee that I will charge you."

And if you are always slicing the same wire (say you always start with red if you are not using a clamp) you will average 50% success. It is part of the challenge of moving up the skill trees. Trial and error.

Some have never done the starport shouting ... I am unable to say that. I did get from Novice to Slicer all in Anchorhead though. I was a scared little noob that didn't want to go to the big scary Coronet.

(to get me off tat a friend had to pay for my round trip ticket and trade them to me)... boy was I dumb back then

I personally believe that going from Novice to Slicer is like going to school. I like how I did it.

I found a Novice weaponsmith and bought 750 Survival Knives (I know 600 probably would have been fine ... but better safe than sorry) .and bought 300 Weapon Upgrade Kits (He borrowed a factory from a friend).

I bought enough low-end copper to make my precision laser knives.

I bought a crafting tool.

I sat in Anchorhead ... grinding laser knives and slicing (always positive first ... because I thought 'lets have a positive attitude')

When I was so sick of seeing knives I did the same process for spice.

When I was so sick of crafting ... I got in touch with my doctor/creature handler friend and said 'keep me alive please...I want pistol xp"

Smuggler is a long progression ... that really sucks ... but I think the end result is worth it. I do not think new smugglers should be able to use clamps ... and in the rare occasion that I have sold them ... I sold them for $100k/crate (because I am a Smuggler after all).

Well, I did write a longish reply to this but who knows what happened to it

The basics were,

Increasing prices good!

But increasing them to 10k+ Bad.

My reasoning is that the general populace won't go for such a large price hike, and it leaves us open to undercutting by our Dabbling or less comitted colleagues.

I think raising the price to 5-6k per slice (yes, I too hated folks charging per %!) is a much better idea.

It's an increase that'll make it slightly more worthwhile for us, yet not hit the general populace in the pocket too much.

Also, it may encourage the other Smuggler to raise their prices aswell, if it's not such a large and shocking hike.

Now, on another note, what are we gonna do about the faction price situation on Chimaera, Vennt?

I have been charging 5k/slice since probably August with no increase in price. I can make more money running missions and if every smuggler goes to run missions and stops slicing ... then people will be upset that they can never find a smuggler.

My time is valuable. In SWG, value = credits. Where can you make more money?

Answer 1: Selling Faction (unless the smuggler is a dope that doesn't get much profit)
Answer 2: Missions
Answer 3: Slicing
Answer 4: Spice
Answer 5: "Creative" ventures

The trick is to move Answer 3 into Answer 2. We need to make more money slicing to make it worthwhile. The result, customers must pay, or lose access to Smugglers. If the smuggler does not realize he can make more money running missions ... then the Smuggler must be re-educated about how easy it is to make money doing missions when you are buffed, on brandy, and on spice.

As for customers not willing to pay, I think I showed in my example earlier in this thread ... people do pay (because I have raised my price already).

I'm game to try it out. I (as I already mentioned) will not go back to a % based system, but I'll slice for 10k per item, discounts only to guild members, and see what happens. If I see few complaints then maybe I'll go up further. I do not advertise anyway, I just remain searchable.

You know I'm not even a smuggler yet so haven't had to get to the xp/credits point yet but I'm working on getting there soon. Now this is just my opinion and I realise that most of this isn't even in the game mechancis but should be.

Slicing and selling spices is supposed to be ILLEGAL yet most smugglers are harping their services ut in the open like a common bazaar merchant. This is the kind of business that should be done in the dark backroom of a cantina/basement/abandoned warehouse, etc and customers should be wary about searching for a smuggler to do the service. Someone caught slicing or selling/making spices should run the chance of being caught and severly penalized and so should the person looking to have this done thus the prices should be very high. I mean we are supposed to be working behind the scene, dodging the law and so forth....not simple peddlers out on the streets selling watches.

Any of you on farstar? if there are others on this server i'll join up with them to start campaigning and trying to raise the prices!

I wish people would reailise that slices are ILLEGAL and can cause problems. Also, a sliced item is worth much more than a temporary buff!

I will step up for Scylla and start to charge 10k per slice, hopefully others from Scylla come to the smuggler forums and see this and will follow my lead.

My prices went up today to 10k and NO GARANTEES on valcyn, the way I see it, I don't need peoples cash for slicing. They however need a slice for their weapons and armor. I also only slice for imperials and I urge other imperial smugglers to do the same, we should not be slicing the enemies weapons. Rebs and Neutralscan do what the hell they like

I have found that people will pay 500/% as I was experimenting with prices and I was charging 100/% normal weapons 500/% Uber. So people will pay 18k for a slice ( they guy was really happy with his new +36% dmg geo pistol )

I will be searching out fellow smugglers on Valcyn over the next week and will send an email to try and united them in this price increase. Hay weaponsmiths add two extra zeros after the prices for +20% slices on their vendors for a slice we did for 2k. If you are a Smuggler on Valcyn send me a email and I will put you on my mailing list for this letter I will send out next week.

I'm meeting with much resistance on the price increase here on Scylla, maybe it's because it's a smaller less used server. I know we have some rich pc's on here but...

I also haven't found ne1 willing to help me with trying to bring the price up. Any other smugglers from Scylla read this give me a /tell in game and let me know what you think.
