If anybody believe there's a such thing that a "cared for" profession in this game, they are lured by marketing. All the planned future of this game was cancelled last year and replaced with an offer to pay $120 to grind in Aurilia.

The last publish had 15 fixes and 12 non-Fixes.
Almost none of thoose fixes are customer-requested, and almost none of the non-Fixes are game-enhancers.
I believe I can go back one year and find less than 10 solid upgrades that players actually asked for.
There's one mammoth upgrade though. It extends all grinding time with x4-x8.
This is a marketing strategy, for thoose who do not recognize it. It enforces stubborn players to pay more for the same, to reach their fruitless goals. The change effects all players, although Aurilia is ofcourse the greatest money duplicator. Publish 10 made a potential sum of ~$120 per account. Pub 22 duplicates that sum with x4-x8. But it also stalls new players to pay for 4 months instead of 2.
Grinding is what this game have to offer, so the longer people are stalled in doing that, the longer it takes for them to realise that's all there will ever be to this game. Thats why every planned extension to this game was cancelled and replaced with a mamoth grind with a promised "reward" at the end.
The majority of the professions just have no game beyond the terminals. Eventually they quit or start with Aurilia in beliefs that there's love there. But that's just an illusion. People who have payed their share to get one realise that rather quickly.
This is the end. Aurilia isthe finished product. Every red post that tells you otherwise is here to stall you to pay more.
What I see is a machine (StarWars License) that prints money with minimal service required. Management arent dumber than they realise that people will continue to pay, so manpower can be moved onto other projects. Every publishshines lack of manpower required to adress the issues and make the game a rich and quality experience.
I do not believe it's a case of incompetence, or lack of love from the side of the actual developers. As long as people continue to play, management could be less interested in hiring enough developers. The few that still works do not have enough hands/eyes/ears to give the game the professional finish it needs.
I recognize this from many other similar projects that put more money into marketing than in quality.

While much of what you say is true MsNil, you did the typical Jedi deflection.
Yes it is about marketing, they assume that people will stay to grind that Jedi.
In doing so however they have created a profession that is over powered and HAS gotten far more attention than any other. If they made Jedi simply on par with everyone else and cut down their grind we would see less of them and the Devs would not have to waste time trying to balance things and fix the horribly broken GCW on account of that one profession. The introduction and handling of Jedi is the major factor for the woes of this game... well, not counting the ones running it that is.

Correct. I'd place a bet on any table that Lucasarts has much to say about it too.

Pub 9 exploited the quality of the game for money. I do not know exactly when they gave up the game, but it was before pub 9.
If it was the intention to make SWG a great quality experience they would had continued right away on all thoose still "unfinished" professions such as Smugglers, Rangers, Architects, Entertainers etc. Also making sure that the GCW was a great experience and pve was thrilling.
Back in the day I was a Pistoleer with the two pistollines from Smuggler/BH. Grinding that template and exploring the few dungeons that where in-game was fun. I had alot of dreams back then, but I had been planning to quit the game for 2 months in August 2004. Since I was a guildmaster and had friends, it was very little more than an opportunity for me to stay for another 8 months. I had an illusion that once I was done, maybe things would have been fixed, and I had something to do while waiting.
I cannot really say I have played this game since.

I was talking from SoE's point of view.

And also, people play the game for more than Jedi.Aurilia is NOT the end product of the game. Thats the fatal flaw that jedi, and powergamers and even developers have. The 'end' product. It's and RPG. There shouldn't be an end. The game is in the playing of it, as life is in the living of it.
Aurilia is their product that gives a potential +$120 per account with no further effort from the producers. Catching the rest of the fishes requires money in development, hiring developers etc. To a player, the Mission Terminals is not more fun with a Lightsaber. Actually playing the game, regardless of what you actually play, is unrewarding, contentless and repetitive. Many potentially fun aspects of Star Wars have been neglected for other games such as EverQuest II or The Matrix; SoE's prime focus at this time (although I believe The Matrix share's very similar issues with SWG right now as it's a license that drags players based on the name, not by quality).

I'd like to take this oppurtunity to tell the care bears, and those that seem to be grinding their way to care bear status...
