Thread: Smugglers in SWG History as written by the Devs

I've got a nice little PM typed up and saved in Notepad. Now, I'm just waiting to see the revamp plans before I decide whether or not to send it to JustG, TH, Q3PO, and anybody else witha red name that I can think of.
I think I'll add alink to this thread to it...
Just so you know, I think Q3PO has his PMs turned off. I tried sending him a PM, a few days ago, and it told me that it couldn't be delivered for "bla bla bla" reason.
I've been a master smuggler...errr, master slicer and I had fun doing it. It helped me make some money and I enjoyed that 25% discount that master slicers get on factional items.
The problem, however, is not just with smugglers. It's with the whole damn game and we all know it. I hate to point out my own posts in a thread, such as this, but the entire development of this game is so flawed that it would take a year to fix.
And probably gets me permanently banned
No, smugglers are not what they should and could be. They should have been left out until the SE came along, but smugglers are a cool idea - if they are set up to do what they are supposed to do. As it is, SWG's "smugglers" are glorified slicers and spice dealers.
I've recommended, on other forums, that a "protest" would be the best thing to get attention. Not like the wookiee protest, though, but something a bit more harsh. Get a massive number of people to cancel their accounts, hit the each of the forums in a long protest thread, keep SOE's customer accounts operators on the phones, and make a statement - "FIX THE GAME OR WE WALK!"
The only problem with the idea is that SOE would most likely write the game off, at that point, and it would get nothing done. Although, a letter writing to campaign to LucasArts might get better response. As this thread clearly states - players have been being LIED to, for months. I'm fairly certain that Lucas doesn't really want his name on something that gets dragged through the mud.
My vote, as a former and future master slicer/spice dealer (current profession grinder) - we hit LucasArts with a letter writing campaign. The game has been given a foundation, but has no real direction. In the hands of people who would stay true to Star Wars, smugglers would be scoundrels, bounty hunters would be feared and jedi would be deep in hiding.
Just my two cents.
Ugh, I remember a lot of those posts, just one after the other.
*sigh*
I just can't believe nothing will have changed in the months I've been gone. The only small amount of hope I have is for the SE. Couldn't we expect something from that? We might get the forgotten Hutt Faction? Perhaps something special to change us into this "spacey" profession that seems to be the devs excuse for not giving us a real smuggler now.
Hehe... I'm reminded of those last weeks of beta, when they FINALLY added smuggler into the game for the first time. For many of us it was a great disappointment and we took to the boards right away. I guess we failed to change anything then, and it seems nothing has changed now.
Would it really be that hard for them to change the title? Just name us Criminal or Drug dealer? That has been my long time wish. It's the simplest solution; they rename it and can add a true smuggler into the SE.
Ugh...I guess I should stop rambling, it's just so depressing.
Anway I guess we will see how it turns out soon. I still need to read up on whats been going on.
AFLAC!
<---- Has heard stories that TH was a shaker and a mover in his beta days....no reason why being outspoken should be shuned. IMO your doing EXACTLY what needs to be done in order to do what your title represents. And that is to bring the voice of the people i.e. smuggler people to the top. I for one applaud you fordoing what your doing. No flameing just simply letting us be heard!!!!

I've said it once and I'll say it again...
Sony has never cared about their players and what they want.
They are Masters at "dangling the carrot" in ours faces so that we continue to pay their overpriced fee's for a game that does not work.
It doesn't work... if it did then they wouldn't be revamping all these friggin' classes a **edit**ing YEAR after release. To say that a online game is ever changing is very very true... but don't let them tell you this is that ever changing crap, because it isn't. It is a broken game from launch, end of story. You are paying for them to fix what was supposed to be working from launch.
These devs are being told to fix the money making classes first and foremost. They are going to do the CGW last because they are gathering as many as possible (new players) based on the fact that Jedi are in game and they can be one! They use Jedi as a tool to get players, then they switch to their lies about everything cause the friggin game is so broken.
You know as well as I do that is only takes about 2 weeks to master a class... and the CGW is the "end game" for us. Ha! One year later there are tons of Masters and no end game...
Best thing is to just leave guys, serious. Cancel your accounts because these guys DO NOT CARE. Look at Everquest and how long it took them to get things fixed... horses added etc. They dangle that carrot for as long as possible, then they fix.
Don't let them dangle it anymore... just leave.
This game sucks, end of story.
There is nothing fun in this game... it is constant repetition of the same lame **edit** time and time again.

After reading that recount post of the Devs comments in the past 10 months ...
Leads me to believe that talking about it is easier than implementing changes.
They need more designers and programmers. I'd be willing to pay an extra dollar a month if it would mean they would hire more designers and programmers to actually get these problems worked on.
This is important information showing a pattern of"Mistatements" and delaying by the Dev team.

Just taking a shot in the dark here, but I believe there may be a viewpoint out there that having all these statements compiled in a comprehensive list for all to read and stickied to the top of the page may be slightly counter to trying to rebuild a sense of teamwork and cameradery. I'm not saying that I share that viewpoint, but perhaps that perspective is out there.
This was unstickied primarily because, it's a developer history post and we had an incredible amount of stickies at the top.
The opportunity that I took was copying this entire post, and pasting it into the Correspondent Only post area concerning developer feedback, and providing a link to this from there.
So it's still stickied and archived, but we now have it all in one thread.

Hey, that's cool Caylin - Wasn't attacking you; I know you've been just as much a watchdog for us as EN was. But with the new "spirit of change" sweeping the forum, I wasn't sure if maybe someone at the top may have decided to dislodge this in the hopes of calming those still troubled spirits.
Hope I didn't offend you, of all people. Last thing I want to do, bud.
