A few things.

One, as has been discussed on another thread, pretty sure the item from crate thing is delegated to Percision Laser Knives. I know that clamps and upgrade kits come out as normal. Therefore, I am to assume that the pricing is due to the INCREDIBLE HASSLE of double clicking on a crate.

Secondly, people are obviously stupid. Anyone that would willingly pay those prices deserves to have you rape their bank account. I realize I am in the minority, but I have myself a fixed system. I charge people not too much. I won't say how much, but it is cheaper than even the lowest cost I have seen. Why is this? Because I already make many many times the amount I spent on tools to do the slicing in the first place. I am already making such a huge profit that I don't have to go all medical prices on people. I set the price low and let them know that they don't have to, but if they want to, they are more than welcome to tip on quality. And you know what? Most people do. Hell, some people do even if I don't tell them that because they ae still getting taken for significantly less than other smugglers would. Last night it was between me and this other smuggler in the coronet starport. He was charging 5 or 10, I wasn't. Who did they come to? Who still made just as much as they would have because they know how to manipulate others with acts of kindness? That would be me.

Thirdly, since we won't see a revamp this millenium, this means the chance of tool quality mattering won't come into effect for a while. when that goes into effect, of course prices will jump. We will need the best metals to make all of our tools. But until then, it is costing exactly the same to do, only now you have to clicky clicky to get a measley knife out, which is better because the game used to remove a charge 10 knife from a crate when another was not present, but give you only one charge from it.

In summation, everyone but me is insane. Whee.

Sincerely,

Your Friendly neighborhood Smuggler

That's all well and good. But as a master smuggler who doesn't really give a crap about money, I couldn't care less if I lose a client to you because I charge 10K.Slicing is fun, but it's also annoying enough where I'd rather spend my time doing plenty of other things in the game.

As far as using cost to justify low prices is concerned......Hogwash. The only reason the majority of all players charge what they charge is based on what people will pay, not how much it costs to produce.

Ever wonder how much it costs Kellog's to manufacture one box of Frosted Flakes? $ 0.27 . what do you pay at the store...$2.99 ? How much do you think your windows CD actually cost microsoft? As long as you can sell above your cost.....then cost has absolutely no bearing on an intelligent marketing strategy. Living in a capitalistic society, the golden rule of sales is : Never leave money on the table. Charity is great. But since we're NOT talking about real money here, 1K per slice or 100K per slice, nobody really gets hurt. There's nothing extra riteous about charging less money based on cost, because at the end of the day, little johnnie can power down his PC, eat a twinkie and go to bed with a roof over his head, not really losiing sleep over the fact that he just spent 10,000 Credits on a slice.

As always, do what ya want.

I just think that the price based on cost argument is silly.

I agree with the price raise...having to take out the laser knives requires so much more work that we need to raise prices to compensate for the time it takes to do that. (I know it really doesnt take any work at all I am just asmuggler who wants more money)

10k per slice it is.

I'm confused. I haven't gotten to smuggler yet. Should be there in the next day or 2. Can someone explain to me what this means for a smuggler?

Ok this thread needs to be closed. The patch notes are wrong. Read the correspondents thread on this.

What happened is that a bug was fixed, not that you cannot slice from crates. Anyone who sliced yesterday knows this. Play the game.

Prior to patch 9 when you sliced a weapon/armor and did not pull a knife from a crate one knife was used from the crate for each slice. That is the crate number went down by one per slice. This is a problem because if you take the knife out of the crate you will notice that it has 10 charges and each knife is good for 5 slices, not 1, if removed from the crate.

The bug was causing knives to be used at 5 times the rate they should be if they are not taken from a crate first.

What has changed is that now the knife in the crate will count as 10. That means that the number on the crate will not go down until you use all 10 knife charges(5 slices).

Basically a bug was fixed and you now get to use up knives at the proper rate.

The patch notes were wrong, the actual change, not the one reported was an awesome fix to a bug that was costing smugglers who did not know (like me) 5 times the knives it should have.

Relax, take a deep breath, it is all good.
