Got something to do with Smugglers and Pistoleers being able to move quickly and easily. Battle armor doesn't promote quick reactions.
You can still wear the armor if you just get Novice in the prof it's certed to, you're just gonna move like you're wading through a tar pit and shoot like a 150-year old blind man.
Seriously, all RPGs have some limitations on armor. Look at the Star Wars PnP RPG. Gotta have the feats to use armor efficiently, and Scoundrels and Scouts don't get those. They have to take them extra if they want them, kinda like having to take a different profession's skills to get the armor certs in SWG.

Actually I think the Rifleman Corr explained it best.
Recon, Battle, Assault are misnomers. It's best to think of them as Energy, Balanced, and Kinetic armor. they're all exactly the same but Recon gets an extra energy layer and a small reduction in the effectiveness in the base kinetic defense. Assault is the opposite, battle is evenly balanced.

Hey! That's what I said on the SIN chat channel last night!! Thief!! Thief!!!
I guess great minds think alike
As for the RP argument (Smuggler/BH querky/exotic), I hadn't thought of that, seems to fit nicely; having said that, I can't think of an RP argument for SL or CM pistols
a Squad leader would need a durable, simple, easily field-stripped weapon. Good reason why it would be kinetic.
a Combat Medic would need a lightweight simple to use weapon intended for exceptionally close encounters. which is why the AD pistol's framelooks like its made out of a polymer or composite material.
Neither would be ideal for a Pistoleer, a word defined as "a soldier whose weapon is a pistol." A Pistoleer would want a precise weapon more suited for a slightly larger distance, or that which could be easily fired from a mount.
Yeh, those fit, but they don't entirely preclude a Pistoleer from using the weapons; Querky I interpreted as modified/considerabley different to normal pistols, the same with BH's 'more exotic' weapons. I can't imagine a trained soldier having an issue with getting used to a simple and durable or lightweight pistol.
I'm not arguing for it, as the balance/game mechanic issue seemsto beprevelant in this case, just searching for something to fit as well background wise.

The idea being these pistols are designed for people who need a GOOD gun, but are less skilled in say accuracy etc.
A pistoleer would in theory be trained primarily in marksmanship and would not fare well with these guns which in a strictly RP sense would be TOO simple to be used effectively in a Pistoleer role. Great marksmanship doesn't mean a whole lotwith a gun with rudimentary sights and simple, non- precision construction.
Like a Professional Sports Photographer(pistoleer) trying to use the camera they take your driver's license(cm) picture with to photograph a sporting event.

Maybe cert each and every piece of contraband item to Smuggler while you're at it.. that way we can use everything
Seriously though, I can understand their sentiment, but with the way the new system works, being far more template centric and profession based (rather than a borked inbetween profession/class system) I haveto say that having weaponscerted the way they are isa plus and not a minus.

I don't know what they are complaining about...can a squad leader disarm a opponent with that intimidator? Not unless they have pistoleer.
I am still a fan of the FWG, a pair of those would look mighty fine.

True, padded should be a recon armor if you ask me. Padded was always a light form of armor.
You can still wear the armor if you just get Novice in the prof it's certed to, you're just gonna move like you're wading through a tar pit and shoot like a 150-year old blind man.- yes I know, yes I know, yes I know (if i read this one more time I will rip my own face off, I say again I KNOW).......that is my piont I wont wear it if its going to hurt not help me in comabt and day to day travel
Won't keep you from looking good on a mount or vehicle...

I know, it sux to have your character ripped appart and put back together sideways. Lucky for me, Renn won't be changing much except he's becoming more what I intended originally, that being a pistol-using Smuggler, picking up additional pistol stuff from BH, I guess. Got some backstory for that one too, I think. Of course Renn originally was going to be a Master Smuggler/Master Weaponsmith (Gunrunner) but I'll not go back to crafting for anyone.Message Edited by yimaz on 04-07-2005 02:13 PM
