Well after searching Google for an answer and getting 10 billion porn page hitsI moved on to try the Wikipedia. It says that the filling you put in the recipie determines if the cheesecake is a pie or cake.

Personally I say it's like the platypus, it's a desert type that is all it's own. So fellow Smuggler I suggest that we not squabble about if it's a cake or pie and just enjoy the cheesecakey goodness along with our cakes and pies.

Cheesecake is a cake. If cheescake more like a pie than a cake, they should adjust the meaning of cake to fill the needs of the cheesecake.

Cheesecake is a cake in a very similar way to how a Urinal cake is a cake.

I wouldnt want to eat either.

(Mainly because I'm allergic to cheese)
