Thanks for all the input! Naturally, I had to fly the coop for a week and some right after I started this thread. I'm back now and will compile this into FAQ form over the next couple days.

Now's the time for any last minute additions; should have rev 1 edit out sometime Friday.

I have found that naming the driod before hand makes all the differnce. call it PleaseTip or Buffy or Packstorage and folks dont notice till it goes boom.

I haven’t used these in a while, but you used to get xp for things the bombs killed. Did this get changed? This was pretty handy when trying to level one of those pre-elite boxes like pikes 4 or getting the xp to get to novice tka, for example. You can aggro a lair, get a bunch of critters all on you at once, then pull the bomb and take them all out in one shot. Works quite well with medium sized beasties like sharnaffs or grondas.

Hey all,

I'm a MDE, who's recently taken up novice smuggler, just soI can use these little toys

I haven't had much of a chance to use them yet, but I did try and use one in a duel with a friend. it was just a little 38 power MSE unit. My friend was smart tho, he would shoot the droid whenever i tried to get it to follow him, and the droid would get incapped. We'd still be dancing, i'd run over over, heal the droid and try again. Eventually tho, the droid ran far enough away, that he autostored himself after being incapped.

So I have a couple questions for all you out there,

if you've used the droids, how effective have they been, or have you run into the same problem I describe above?

I had a crate in my inventory, and i coudln't pull a droid from the crate while in combat, which sucked.. so i stopped dueling, and pulled a few deeds out... the deed could be readied while i was in combat, but I found there was no, repeat NO default commands listed on the droid that i could see, or in the datapad. Commands i issued like "follow target" "group" just didn't work at all. is it me?? heheh i see someone here says the default follow target command is chase, so i guess i'llhave to try that.

Do you use these guys in PvP battles at all? or only for surprise attacks on unprotected overts?

After my duel, I've thought to make a new kind of bomb droid, one that won't run away when he get's shot... this will sacrifice some of the detonation power, but would the trade off be worth it?

If anyone has any DE related questions about these units, feel free to ask, and I'll try and answer as best I can.

oh.. one last thing... prices... what's the highest you'd pay for the mse style, 36 power or more?

Dunno if anyone else had this problem, but after pub 10, I bought a crate of nice, high powered, (59 i think... servers down, so that might be off a bit)
r3 droids, and i pulled one out to use, grouped him, targeted him, /det... THIS DROID DOES NOT HAVE A DETONATION MODULE. tried each successive droid in the crate, same, and yet it showed the explosive power when I examined them in the datapad. but not when examining the called droid... well that's all fixed.

In any case, my best tip is in keeping with the way smugglers do things. The droids i had were green r3s. title them r3-g4 a helper unit or whatever Change your title to something other than smuggler/bh titles, and remember, you can /det a droid even if it's been killed by people.

My second best tip is if you find yourself unbuffed, fighting a large group of unbuffed people, feign, call the droid, stand, /det, feign, and chances are you just won the whole battle.

Third is hotkey at least the /det command, if not the group and chase commands. and always use /tellpet, as it makes it more of a surprise.

Dunno if either of these has been mentioned, as It's early, and I don't feel like reading through the whole post, But these are some of the things I find work well with the bomb droids.

thats a great guide!

only thing different i really do is panic shot the target (then peace of course or switch to another target) to buy my droid some time to get to the mob and blow up.
