Hurl,
Yes, the consequences are fairl insubstantial and should be beefed up.
Yes, smugglers should end up on the BH terms for certain actions. Most Smugglers want this as well...but want it when the entire BH/Jedi thing is working well. So do I as a matter of fact.
The entire 'remove contraband from vendors' thing came about from a poll where we were given two choices; yea or nay.
Given ONLY two choices it seems the majority of us think it was good to have them removed. THOUGH, many of us asked for a third choice; consequences of having contraband on vendors.
I think given three choices in that poll instead of two the third would have won out. But that's just MY perspective from having been involved in the discussions that followed.
We want to smuggle Hurl. And that should come in a a number of forms. Moving contraband IS smuggling, smuggling IS moving contraband. We'd like to smuggle for players if possible.
I'm so into the idea of a Smuggler being a criminal that I also think;
1. Smuggler titles dispayed should result in unwanted law enforcement attention.
2. Hawking slicing and spices in public with keywords should result in unwanted law enforcement attention.
3. Slicing in the vicinity of law enforcement should get immediate attention.
I'm all for smuggling and smuggler activities to go 'underground', ie. in back, out of the way allys. You want a vendor with sliced items and spices then it should be accompanied by some serious possible consequences.

Hurl,
Most of us smugglers want to see actual smuggling as the mainstay of our profession with slicing an adjunct skill. This revamp goes a long way toward that. However we all agree that player smuggling is an important addition either with this revamp or as a follow on. Forgive my ignorance, but how would that work? As it stands now the only people transporting significant quantities of contraband are smugglers and merchants like me.
As long as scans are lame and patrols not at important 'choke points' like starports AND as long as vendors carry contraband without consequences then Smugglers aren't going to be able to do what we SHOULD be doing...smuggling for players. I understand the theory, just don't know what kind of mechanics you propose.
I think the majority of us would prefer to see contraband left on vendors BUT with the additiion of consequences for selling contraband. I fail to see how that could possibly be objectionable from a rational perspective...I can see how it's objectionable from a personal greed perspective of course. Lol, you tell me what's worse; greed or coveting your neighbor's possessions. I really could care less if I'm fined for selling sliced goods. The fact is that under the new system selling sliced wouldn't be terribly profitable since each slice is a commodity due to the fact that anyone can get the same slice if they use a smuggler of equal ability, so it's really just about offering a convenience for players who can't or don't want to bother tracking down a smuggler.
But we do all play this game for entertainment, no? So wouldn't it be more entertaining and rich in content to have vendors with contraband the subject of law enforcement scrutiny and possible punishment? I've never objected to this. I only object to a minority trying to dictate how everyone else should play the game.
