Against normal mobs, yes. Some have these specials that pretty much kick the living hoo-hah outta you through feign death. Krayt AOE, nightsisters, things like that.

Caylin; "That we are not a DPS profession, nor a highly defensive one. We once sought to hold our own and seek to escape the situation if it is required. That is crowd control and that is what mezz does."
Caylin, that ONLY works if a bounty can be ended by mezing and running.
As far as I can tell a bounty STILL only ends with the death of the BH or Smuggler.
So this whole 'mez' thing doesn't do us a witts bit of good for actual SMUGGLING.
We either must be able to SOLO a BH OR escape the bounty through another method that ends the bounty.

How about master marksman, master pistoleer, master smuggler and 0003 carbineer? THat gives you access to full auto area 1&2 and charge shot 2.
Or 0444 marksman, master pistoleer, master smuggler and 0044 carbineer, this gives you the counterinsurgency line with Suppression fire 1&2 and Burst shot 1&2 plus +80 to counterattack.

Mezzer makes perfect sense, I'n EP IV Han and chewie run into a squad of Stormtroopers, Han yells and the troopers start running away. It definately follows the movie. I'm probably going for the Smuggler Pistoleer combo.

Hey, Master Smuggler always was my goal. Master pistolseer just sounded good since smugglers used pistols, plus all the cool people except Boba used pistols (no bowcasters atm). Now that sounds like a very good combo for PvP support, and on a plus side those extra skill points left over that I had no idea what to do with can go twards BH 0/0/4/0. Pistol fun, mezzer fun, smugglin fun (eventualy, hopefuly).
You never know where the Defel Spywill be, until you flip the light switch.

It's too bad there's so much anger about smugglers becoming the 'mezzer' of SWG. I'm just excited that there will be an agro/hate system created for group play.
I've played a bit of EQ and EQ2. The 'role' based group MMO is superior IMHO. If for no other reason than that it requires one to play in group. The major flaw that those games have however is the 'level-is-king' system of advancement. Which SWG will not have to worry about.
I don't know if that means I'll stay a smuggler or not. I just hope that the entire game will finally work after all of this time.

I would much rather be wanted or needed in a group based on my abilities as a player than the 'hardcoded' need for my character's specific template like in a typical MMORPG.

Yeah i thought about this combo too seems to be closest to me current skill set but I am leaning to smuggler pistoleer more right now with som BH pistols tossed in too.

I'm thinkin' it'll come down to two possibilities.
Smuggler/Commando - my original idea. That gives an offence total of 8, a defense of only 4, and crowd control of 6. That will give the stun-stall-knockdown from smuggler followed by some serious stomping with the commando skills.
Now I'm also thinking seriously of:
Smuggler/TKA - Offense of 6, Defense of 6, Crowd control of 6 -- the well-rounded combo.
Can't wait to get on the TC to start playing!
I'm debating this exact template but I wanna add two lines of Commando to it just to top out my offense a little more.
I call this template "The Beast" cause the numbers are 666.
If I don't go MBH- I will do The Beast.

Smuggler + Carbineer might be a better crowd controller.
Being able to dictate range and render an enemy ineffective at the same time... who would need defense, anyway?

If you think about it, any Smuggler who escapes thier pursuer has never managed to clear the bounty unless he pays his tab or kills the guy offering the bounty. This means unless he's got the money, the mark on his head doesn't go away. Also, Bounty Hunters are typically more dangerous in one-on-one fights, because they have to be to survive. Another point, is that(only using movie references) whenever Han escaped his pursuers, did you ever hear him say "Yay! I cleared the bounty!" or the Hunters go "Damn! I lost the bounty!"? The Bounty was only cleared once Jabba was dead and Boba was as good as dead. Now, away from pure movie references, there are a few examples out there of the Bounties being cleared by either payment of a debt or whatever, but the Hunter takes his hunt personally, and continues to pursue the mark(primarily because there's a reputation to be maintained); however, that would be considered griefing in the game, so I doubt we'll see that.

I agree that there's currently too many forms of forced interdependancies among the classes(AUKs and WUKS, anyone?), but some things do need to be set in stone, or at least plaster. Just because someone plays a Master Smuggler doesn't mean that when the CURB hits, that he'll know how to play his role. He'll need to get accustomed to how itworks, what effects what and who, and so forth. Once you relearn the profession, you will be sought for your own abilities and skill with your profession of choice, and not those of a character you could have just ground in a few days without actually learning it.
