Im failing to see what you want then? Smuggling is about transporting illegal goods from client A to client B.

Jedi is about upholding laws and being a peacekeeper. Neither can be achieved through game mechanics.

These days it's more about being in a cave until Luke does his thing, with the notable exception of a few who are either trying to help him or convert him to the dark side.

As far as I know, both Palpatine and Vader are NPCs, Yoda's species isn't even playable, there are multiple caves in the game and the naming filter is quite sensitive about calling yourself Obi-Wan. It is also quite hard to image design someone's skin to appear blue and translucent in order to impersonate a glowie.

That's all the game mechanics you need.

Jedi

  • Players will now be able to see Jedi's mouths when they are cloaked, much like the fabled Cheshire Cat. This will allow the Jedi to be able to eat pie that they have stolen from Smugglers while cloaked.

Smugglers

  • All pie and beer is now craftable and edible at jedi initiate box only, those smugglers wishing to eat/drink pie and beer need to grind to this level. You still have your kool ade and crackers though.

Are you dim? (rhetorical question, Smugglers already know the answer)

So Jedi have no Jedi-related content huh. *rolls eyes*

So you pretend to use force powers and have fake lightsabers and only fake bounty hunters come after you?

In the same way you have fake DL44's fake SPace craft and buy fake goods.

One of those point of view things really.

OH! Silly me, DL44s spaceships and...anything we can buy are SMUGGLING content! I get it! But...how come anyone can use those? And why can't ANYONE use a lightsaber if Jedi content is just like Smuggler content?

Like i said point of view thing, playing a jedi bears no resemblance to playing a jedi how it should be. They made up some stuff about dirty old men offering crystals and plonked a janta village on dathomir with some mostly dull quests. Then you kill many many things to get skills until youre finally done and then....run around killing people.

Im not arguing smugglers need to smuggle but as with most aspects of this game everything revolves around PVP or loot whoring as shown by the new smuggling system, and those players dont care if you want to ferry a box from corellia to jabbas palace the same as they dont care if i want something other than killing for my jedi.

All i ask is for them to toss in it like they did in a ol space sim freelancer

Police ships patrols, they announce "Were scanning your ass"

If you have spices on board and you dont scuttle in time BLAMMO they shoot your ass outa the sky.

And you can make modifcations to ships that give holds that give you 40% chance to escape the scan. And there would be missions where one guy gives you a item and you have to deliver it through space and land on another planet and hand the item.

Honsetly, thats not so hard is it?

Nope, been wanting that for ages.

Space as with the ground game has only PVP at the end of the tunnel when you finish all the content and skill sets.

And if SOE can cracked argument is that "Well you see smuggler is not as a high priority proffessian as say BH or jedi so we should pay atention to them"

I've ehard that from alot of people so just to adress it, first of all thats can corned bullshiz. If smuggler would to go from the game every cobmat proff would be crying.

Also even if we were a small proffessian uhm things like that make us big. Thats like when a boat has a pin hole sized leak in it and you decide its gunna sink so you let it.

I don't give a rats behind what your perspective is honestly.

The ONLY thing I care about at this point is that SOE comes through with their promises. They've lied and strung us along for two years. They HAD an In Concept plan up for five months that we discussed without the slightest feedback from them. Then it was gone without so much as a by-your-leave. The CLAIM our smuggling content is done except for "text" but that seems like the biggest bunch of bull I've heard in a loooong time.

I'm not interested in pretending the stuff I have in my backpack is 'contraband' that I'm smuggling for some other player when in fact no other player would pay me one freaking credit to carry stuff for them. And there is NO risk in carrying the current contraband.

The stupid Jedi whine incessantly about being hunted by BHs and would rather farm exp or fp in peace and quiet. Smuggler actually WANT to be hunted by BH because we are so FREAKING STARVED FOR CONTENT. DO you understand that?

listen, i love Roleplaying. in fact, most of the Smuggler community does. it's one of the few professions that has a draw for Roleplayers. mostly because it's a "high concept" profession.

it doesn't take much imagination to be a Pistoleer, or a Swordsman. just pick up a pistol or sword and killin stuff.

but Smuggler... there's a whole mess of ideas behind what a Smuggler does.
first of all and most importantly, they Smuggle. and relying solely on Roleplaying to do this is not an easy task with the way this game is set up.
this game is a weird half-assed mix of a fully open and free-form Roleplaying game (where Players control the environment), and a more constrained and directed Roleplaying game (where the game's Developers control the environment).
unfortunately it's hard to have the best of both worlds.

if this game were fully open, where Players could control just about everything in the virtual world, then you would see these "high concept" (ie. hybrid) professions naturally arise. Players would make the laws. Players would play the law enforcement. other Players would have reasons to act unlawfully. they might think these laws unfair, or just not want anyone telling them how to "live". Players would find ways around these laws, and Smugglers would be born. also, the Players who made and enforce the laws would want to put a stop to these laws being broken so they would go after the criminals, or hire someone to do it, and Bounty Hunters would be born.
this system would require mechanics that would allow any Player to kill any other Player at any time though. and i know that most Roleplayers aren't huge fans of the PvP. although they seem to fail to realize that a system like this would provide the most immersive experience.

on the other hand. if this game were fully directed, where the Developers controlled everything, then it would be up to them to create immersive game mechanics where there were rules and systems in place that would give Players reasons to act unlawfully.

the key here is reasons. without reasons to do things, there can not be an immersive experience.
and in this game there is a severe lack of reasons to do almost anything.

that's why the GCW is nothing more than two teams of miserable people battling to see who's more "Bu3rz0rz".
that's why everyone has sliced gear.
that's why no one Smuggles.
that's why people are dissappointed with this game.

it's stuck in some weird limbo between freedom to create our own reasons as a community, and directedness of the Developers giving us reasons.
