Thread: The trade off.. less smugglers or keep concussion shot

Take a good look around your server. Thats a possible fix to slicing but with two issues:
- Will it create an even larger influx of people to the smuggler profression? If that happens it really will be a matter of people only getting to slice their own stuff - and the sky is falling, again everyone will not become a smuggler
- Will it be an effective enough slice that people actually want it done? - funny but people ask me now (last night as a matter of fact) for 2 and 3% slices so my answer would have to be yes.
Ok thats it I'm all done here, we could do this all day and Im not going to. The sky is not falling, everyone will not be a smuggler and people need to chill outa little.

Not everyone is going to go Smuggler. There are a LOT of equally interesting, beneficial, and fun profs out there (our board is the best but what can you do about that, really).
Docs, Commandoes, TKM, Carbs, heck, even Jedi- ALL have their audience. Since Smuggler is due to be made what it should have been all along, YES, people will flock to us. HOWEVER- that should have little to no effect on a Smuggler who's been doing it for a while. You will have a customer base.
You know how to best load your factories and get the most supply of Spice out effeciently. You have a macro set up for FP sales and know the ins and outs of it. YOU have it over them. Relax.
Who cares if someone else is a Smuggler or has been a Smuggler. Most have due to that whole Holo craze thing. It is NOT a big deal.

I don't even know what you are worried about here. If people want to spend the points to slice their own gear they will. They ALWAYS have. In the end anyone who wants to be a Smuggler WILL be a Smuggler. We shouldn't dumb down the profession in order to chase people away. I want Smuggler to be better than every other profession out there but that won't happen because everyone's tastes are different.

Idunno. Do you get buffs? Eat food? Make your bed? The slices will be effective. When your wep goes out of tune- we will fix it and most likely be asked to slice it again. I just think your overreacting to...nothing.
Even your sig says "Abandon all hope". Just try chillin' a little bit, friend. It's gonna be O.K.

See I've gone through this with DE and Smuggler in the past. I've had both my favourite profressions financialy ruined from hologrinders.
I was a Creature Handler way back just after the game launched, so I know a little about having my profession screwed over.
(I was a Wookiee, too.)
I'd been thinking of staying respec'd to Smuggler after the respec phase, so I definitely don't want to see the profession trashed. I don't want to be slicing and spicing and factioning for everyone though. I was one on another server before and really enjoyed the profession as more of a "loner" than a wheeler and dealer.
I do think that Smuggler is a "combat" profession... But with the stipulation that it is a HYBRID combat profession.
Smugglers are, of course, supposed to have assorted training in gunfights and brawls and such, but their skills should be mostly tailored around getting away from whatever is after you. Not killing them, just living through it and getting away with whatever you were doing at the time.

Slicing has NOT recovered from the hologrind and its nearly been a year (if not already a year) since hologrinding ended. The smuggler revamp may give us the oppatunity to correct this but not if it continues that praticaly everyone ingame is a smuggler.
Just ask yourself, how can you sell a product to someone that can just go make it himself for free.
Are you *only* a smuggler? Is this your *only* way of making money? If you're playing a smuggler to make money, you're in the wrong profession. Most of the veteran smugglers I know on Bria hate slicing andcan't be bothered with selling FP, and spice never sold that well. They have another set of skills (ranger, BH, rifleman) that they use to loot farm. I think very few people ever got rich off smuggler skills alone *glances hopefully at the revamp*
Anyway, if I wasn't a smuggler, I could make more money sinking my skill points into scout and harvesting hides than by taking up slicing and spamming in Coronet with bad spelling and grammar. Less headache dealing with idiots too.

For a profression that gains its money through a non-combat activity (i.e. slicing/spicing/fp) its as damaging for there to be so many smugglers as it would be if 1 in 3 were weaponsmiths or armoursmiths or shipwrights etc.

im bombarded with dozens of tells a day for slicing, i can barely keep spices stocked, i sell faction to at least 2 people every day im logged in, and i really dont see many other master smugglers around.
so yeah... i dont really know where youre basing that conclusion. hehe.
as far as giving everyone a root like ours...well no, thats just silly. like syaing, lets give everyone innate armor like tk, let's give everyone high damaging specials like rifleman and let's give everyone the dots of a cm. /rolleyes all of our specials are designed to stun, slow down, freak out, scare off and confuse our opponents so that we can make a quick get-a-way. thats why we have a long root...so we have a good head start for running like hell. =P
I have a solution for you, not a very viable one, but a solution none the less.
Call an SOE CSR and get him to transfer your char to Corbantis (Smugglers are still smei-rare here) and I'll help get you back on your feet in a new Galaxy.
Other than that - this is all you can do:
