Call me short-sighted if you must, but I don't like it. I've thought this over a long time and I just can't bring myself to find any positive side to being on the wrong end of a Bounty Hunter.

All I can see is myself sitting with some friends in a cantina talking, unbuffed and unarmored, wearing my plain 'ol street clothes... then a 14 year old Bounty Hunter in Composite Armor and buffed up the whazoo storming in and blasting me into oblivion before I can stand up, then proceeding to explain to me how the action makes him something like "I am teh l337 uber-b0nu7y huN7eR!!!!!11111"

Reading this makes me wonder exactly how old you are.

I am sure the devs will code a way for people who want no PvP can enjoy just that: no PvP.There are ingame mechanics you can use to deal with people such as you describe: /addignore 1337d00d, /report, etc... It is a good thing the devs show attention to those who want no PvP, but I will be just as quick to point out that I don't appreciate people hammering down a PC BH option for smugglers based on their prejudices toward this game system and toward certainplayers who do happen to enjoy PvP during their game time.

And I'll be just as quick to point out that I just haven't had any good PvP experiences. I never said you had to like my point of view, I also said nothing about whether it should or should not be added, I also said nothing about not making it an option. I was simply stating that I personally would not engage in it.

Now, how old are you?

Is that wrong thinking?

Unfortunately, yes, because, even if it's just a badge, as soon as you seriously propose it, there will be hundreds of so-called PvE-ers, crying about how they can't get everything in the game anymore. It happened numerous times related to both the JTL beta and the GCW.

Forgive me if anything I add has already been said. But here's my 2 cents.

For me Yes I want the option to be hunted by BH's. I'm an avid pvp'er with my triple master template. I do fairly well and the only thing that really takes me out are long fights and dots because I can't heal myself. I want to smuggle. But if having to fail a certain number of missons to put me on the boards to be hunted then that's what I'm going to do. I would rather that not be the case because I WANT BH's to come get me. I like the idea of being sneaky, and having to constantly watch my back. Isn't that part of being a smuggler?

What if there were missions that you could take that put you on the board reguardless if you succeeded or failed? Say you take a smuggling mission from the Hutts. Well the Valarians should be after you for that cargo since they are at odds. Now if you succeed, great you get your reward, but you also just got put on the terminals by Lady Valarian because she wanted that cargo and is now holding a grudge. If you failed then Jabba the Hutt will be most upset with you and place a bounty on you.

The same could be said the other way to if you are smuggling for Lady Valarian and Jabba wants the cargo. It is a mission that puts you on the boards reguardless of success or failure. Maybe the payout would depend on if you succeeded or failed. Not sure on that one yet. Now it could be made where you have to do some little theme based quests or so to get into Jabba's good grace's, or Lady Valarian's good grace's, in order to take these missions since they should be the hardest of the smuggling missions.

Something like that would seperate the people who want PC BH's after them, and those who dont since it is a clear cut choice that you are choosing a mission that would put you on the boards.

If you want smuggler to be more evasion then direct combat with a PC Bounty Hunter lets make this more a possiblity.

  • If the BHeither gets you to surrender the spice or kills youhe succeeds and you fail. hecollects the spice you carry and the pay (30-75k)and you lose face with your employer

  • If you fight they don't get the spiceor paid if you beat them

  • If you give up your spice to the BH his mission succeeds and you pay a fine to your crimelord (dumped the spice to avoid capture) It is considered a fail - but not a lose of face to your crimelord.

  • Your smuggling mission must take a min of 30 mins you have to wait a various Starports for contacts on many worlds during the mission

  • If you succeed in your mission you get 50% of the shipment + a large monetary reward (say 30-75k)

  • The Bounty Hunter gets the mission on the BH terminal as soon as you accept a mission or maybe 5 mins after you accept the mission

  • They can usetheir contacts butthey only give them the location of a major planet you must visit but not the starport you must go to.

  • You get a choice of 2 starports on the major worlds to visit for you contact / they have to cover three or more

  • Only 1 BH allowed to take your mission as it does not involved actually have to involve killing you.

  • same rule as Jedi Vs Bh - 1 on 1 only

I like this idea, but not for bounty hunters...bounty hunters aren't the authorities, they should only be after us for failing to deliver our shipments, not before. Maybe we can keep this idea in mind for when/if they ever allow players to join planetary police forces in the ground game as well as space

perhaps to make the Hit not so hard in the Player Bh comin after the Smuggler. No deacy and No charge Clone. If Jedi can only lose xp on death from a BH with a mission. im sure it could be coded. And as far as the idiot 13 yr olds. SOE should take a stand on this problem In the Entire game. I balme SOE and Bad parenting for that problem. Ban them a Few days and see if things improve.

Some good points are raised, now I would like my shot at it . I think they need to complicate the whole Dead Beat system.

Smuggler Prestige

First off, the dead beat system should have a counterpart, smuggler prestige. The more successful missions you get as a smuggler, the more prestige you earn. The more prestige, the better the contracts. The amount of prestige would determine what type of contracts you can get. The best smuggler in the land (the one with the most prestige) would get the best jobs, usually earning over 100k per job. These jobs would be much more difficult to complete, with player bounty hunters trying to stop them, and NPC BH and mercs showing up from time to time. The higher the Smuggler Prestige, the larger the player bounty is.

To prevent exploitation, the loss of prestige would be great if a smuggler loses a high prestige contracts. This would make it worth while to not get killed by a player BH because your reward you would get for completing the mission would be greater then the BH reward (but not by much) and your loss in prestige means you have to work it back up doing more "worthless" missions. Also, the items you are smuggling could be placed in an explosive box. The smuggler may attempt to open it, but with risk of destroying the contents (and hence losing the mission and prestige) and possibly even dying, which may not be worth the risk for the smuggler

Dead Beat Smuggler

I don't think player bounties should be on the dead beat smuggler persay (I know you didn't want us talking about this, but I am going somewhere good with this). The average dead beat smuggler will have NPC bounties on his head, and probably didn't want to be forced into PvP. So, we work with the dead beat smuggler that had failed a high prestige smuggling contract. Lets say the best smuggler in the galaxy loses his cargo. He will lose a fair bit of prestige, but the employer may also place a bounty on the smugglers head. This bounty would get larger with each passing hour the smuggler is online and the bounty has not been collected. This will inspire more BH to hunt the smuggler down, and reduce the chance that a "friend" BH will kill him for just the credits. Again, it would be more profitable for the smuggler to try to not fail his mission.

The only thing left is to make sure a BH "friend" of the smuggler dosn't get a free kill for a lot of credits in the case where the smuggler fails the contractand wants to let his friend get a reward for it. The easiest way I see it is the Bounties are not guarenteed by a smuggler. IE: When the bounty hunter is given the mission, he is not told who the target is, only the value of the mission. Make the penalties for disgarding a mission very high, maybe even a BH prestige system which opens up access to higher prestige smuggler bounties.

i did not see this addressed any where, but what about the odds, will it be 1 vs 1 or will the smuggler beable to have a group of say 3 ( non - jedi professions ) to fight off the BH? i think first we need to know the basic system before we can counter exploits. i for one would love to be chased all over the place by a BH, including space, maybe have an alert mechanisem to say you are being followed by a BH so you can be prepared for battle.

    Here's just a throwaway thought...

Combined with "backlash penalty" for the SMuggler - loss of good contracts, owing the original owner of good a sizeable amount of cash as Han did to Jabba - make all shipments while the smuggler is "on the terms" lootable.

However, in order to get any reward from completing a BH mission against a smuggler, the BH must hand in any and all contraband to the nearest SpyNet operative.

However, while he's carrying it, the contraband remains lootable.

Fancy recovering your shipment, folks? The hunter hunted, maybe?

maybe a slight change to that idea is only 1 BH can attack you at a time. also have a mechanisem where you can bribe a BH and if he takes the brib then he lses your mission. i'm all for 1 vs 1 combat but more then 1 BH must be able to take the mission.
the mission would be only be removed upon compleating a few sucessful missions.

ah... a very good modification of the system - I should have thought of that ^_^

I don't think having many BH coming after you is a bad thing. As long as we can have a group defend you too. The biggest thing to prevent exploit is to not allow the BH no the name of the bounty until after he collects the mission, and then give BH a presige system, so if they drop the mission without completing it, they lose prestige and will have a harder time getting high paying bounties.

Hmmm... I do like the idea of having a mission for PvP. So if you don't wish to PvP with a PC BH, then don't take the mission.
I don't think making PC BHs hunt Smugglers would be too hard. Some things need to be changed, yes, but it shouldn't be a completely difficult task to accomplish.

I think having a PC BH on my ass would be a ton of fun.
