HOW TO MAKE A CLICKY LINK FOR BEGINNERS:
REQUIREMENT:
You MUST have the "Edit as HTML" option near the bottom right of your Compose a Message screen.
I think that newer forum members may not have the "Edit as HTML" option.
If you do NOT have the "Edit as HTML" option, then you can stop reading now...
There are different ways to do it. This is one way that helps avoid screw-ups and makes it easier for the novice:
1. Do NOT use the "Edit as HTML" button until later... start off in the "normal" note window.....
2. Go ahead and Write your entire note, and where you want to put a Clicky, just enter "xxxxxx" (or any other easily recognizeable string). The idea here is tocompose your entire note and put your Clicky in the VERY LAST THING.
3. Once you have composed your note the way you want it (except you have "xxxxxxx" instead of a clicky), NOW press the "Edit as HTML" button. If you can Edit as HTML, You shouldsee a new message window with your original message in the middle of alot of strange text that probably means nothing to you.
4. Findyour "xxxxxx" string amid all the garbage. DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING BUT THE "xxxxxx' STRING.
5. You will replace the "xxxxxx" string with the following:
<A HREF="http://your.link.goes.here">Clicky</A>
...where "http://your.link.here" gets replaced with a valid URL (web site) where your picture is.
For example, for a clicky to USAToday.com website, you would replace your "xxxxxx" with the following:
<A HREF="http://www.usatoday.com"> Click this to go to USAToday </A>
6. After changing your "xxxxxx" string to an <A.....> </A> string like above, press the "Submit Post" button.
IF IT DOESNT WORK:
The most common reason for it not working is a missing quote,a missing slash, or a missing "<" or ">".
Look at the examples above CAREFULLY and notice where all the quotes go, etc.
A COUPLE OF ADVANCED OPTIONS:
The above method will cause your link to appear in a NEW WINDOW. You may want it to appear in the SAME WINDOW so you can just use the "Back" button to return to the forum. This is very easy: Just add the TARGET=_top option like below to step 5 above.
<A TARGET=_top HREF="http://www.usatoday.com"> Goto USAToday </A>
The normal old Clicky's come out in a drab brownish orange color. You can change the color of your clicky by adding some "FONT" tags around your Clicky Text, like this:
<A HREF="http://www.usatoday.com"> <FONT COLOR=lightblue> Goto USAToday </FONT> </A>
This does NOT change the link.. just the color of the Clicky text on the screen.
