Id say you're waitnig for the revamp...also, with the CR coming up, me personally....I wouldnt do too much changing around now. It'll beinteresting to see how Smuggler will combine with the other combat professions.
and yes, I know we are a Hybrid profession.

For the same reason that I gave up Bounty Hunter and am working on becoming smuggler.

i became a smuggler because i thought there would be some cool smugglin to do in jtl. now i know they won'y be adding that kinda stuff fora looong time, so gota find something else to do with smuggler.

I far too often wonder the same thing. When i joined this game about a year ago all i wanted to do was become a Smuggler which i did and its all i've been, i've done other profs, but have never dropped Smuggler, yet why am i so attached to it? Take away slicing which i find tedious beyond belief and there is to put it blunt.... F*&% all to do. Next i get an invite to JTL Beta and i hope that maybe there will be something in there for Smugglers to do, but lo and behold.. F&^% all again and to top it, JTL isn't that good either. I'll probably pop in the game every now and then to see if us Smugglers are going to get any love, but im not holding out too much hope.

Because, like me, you're a glutton for punishment? Maybe?
Hell...last night, I went and picked up Novice TK (Went from having 1800 UA XP to Novice TK in 2 hours)...simply because I got tired of trying to cap XP for Force Sensative stuff and I wanted to try something new.
So, now I'm working toward Triple Master. And, having never been in a melee profession before (beyond my UA requirement for Smuggler), this is definitely a new experience for me.
But it's fun...for now anyway.

I left and came back...WHY??
I just miss being a Smuggler. Everything else in this game is boring. And with JTL we get a bit of a tease as to what smuggler could be 
IT's GOOD TO BE BACK!!
