Actually, the timeling is based on the movies. There's a ton of EU stuff used though. If not, where would we have gotten, Talus or Dathomir or Nightsisters etc. etc.

Just pointing out that there's a lot to draw off of. I'd like to see them actually use it more.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

I'm not saying we shouldn't take it, just wondering what happened to all of it.

That, and what I'm saying in another thread, is why we should ask these questions. Is this it? Can we improve on this? Here's some ideas to improve on the new system, can you do this?

After waiting time and again, I'm just kind of curious about what happened to the rest of the stuff, again.

If they say, there's more to come, that would be good info, but as it is, this is being put forth as the new slicing system not the start of the new slicing system.

I think they're just getting started. They don't even have the slicing tools they talked about nor the mini-game.

What we are getting (hopefully) is a slicing system that works again.

Better that they give us one piece at a time rather than saving it all up for a year till they complete every detail.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

sorry to inform you, but this IS the "minigame"

They dropped the tools, they dropped the interface, they dropped the game.

Nothing more for slicing

Well its nice to finally hear some facts from a dev on the matter instead of the usual player speculation. Oh wait...

Hm, let's see, you mean when the Devs said specifically that they had simplified it from the In Concept notes? That maybe? If you honestly think that this is a temporary fix... good luck to you.

I had a conversation with Tomo about this, and his current information is that ship comps are balanced as they are, and we wont be seeing anything around slicing ship comps. But with the statements Tiggs made in the chat, that could change.

Since ships comps can be RE'd into something better(which is almost like slicing if you think about it), why not just allow slicing on non-RE'd comps and once sliced the comp can't be used to RE another.

That way RE'd parts and Sliced ship parts would be similar and still balanced.

From the launch of JTL they never intended to allow ship parts to be sliced. I don't think they're gonna start now.

Ship modification really isn't a Smuggler skill, anyway.

Oh? Why don't you tell that to Han Solo. Apparently he's been messing with the Falcon without knowing what he's been doing all this time!

LOL, I don't want to get into "What's Han Solo's Template." I look at it this way, we can put whatever parts or engines into our ship chassis, these are the modifications Han was talking about. Plus any fool with a repair kit can make repairs on a multi-passanger ship, so why would either of these bepigeonholed as"Smuggler".

Also this is just a game based on some movies.

Templates aside, I should be able to do anything I want with a ship... becuase Han Solo is a poser, and I'm the real thing. Stupid Spice-dumping Corellian. What an amateur.

Well no ever said he was any good except Han himself.

I'd prefer less things to slice. Put smuggling missions in and I probably wont slice another thing. Except my own stuff. Would it be nice to be able to modify my ship parts with a slice, for me yeah, but I don't find it necassary to be a Smuggler. Shipbuilder's have RE, let them have it. IMHO

SmugglineZane; "We're talking ILLEGAL modifications though. "

Oh nonsense! What about slicing is "Illegal"? Illegal means there is a consequence for doing it. Sure there are scans for sliced equipment but they are lame at best. BUT there is absolutley NO consequenses for standing in front of a starport shouting; "Slicing, here next to the stormtrooper." and carrying out an 'illegal' business right under the noses of law enforcement.

I agree 100% man. I want these things to be illegal. I want consequences. I don't know many people on this board who aren't looking for something like. But that right there is something that should remind us of who we're dealing with.

Not too long ago they ramped up the GCW. Well at least they thought they did. I haven't been scanned by anything except a probe droid in the wild since about the second week after those changes. A lot of people thought we were on the path to consequences. I got angry with with Tyrant because he basicly dismissed my comments about neutrals not having any consequences, and now it seems that noone does.

Now that leaves us here. What happened to the proposed changes/additions to slicing? What the heck happened to the progression of the GCW? What happened to the Hutt faction proposed pre launch?

If we don't ask these questions, then how will we ever see these things come to fruition?

PS- I sense some sarcasm in your post, but I figured I'd just give my response for the hell of it.

I'm curious about this too as I think it's a cool idea.

Well, the IC document stated briefly at the beginning that Smugglers would be able to slice components inside POB ships. I agree that components in general shouldn't be slicable. JtL is pretty well balanced (except for the RotW ships) and starting to fiddle with loose components that can go into any ship would not be good. Anyway just as you say RE:ing is basically the Shipwrights answer to slicing.

However, being able to get out of the piloting chair and actually walk around tinkering in your ol' YT would be great! Make it like slicing is now with a risk of catastrophic failure in the middle of a flight, just like the Falcon inthe entire of TheEmpire Strikes Back. Also I don't think anyone would consider POB ships overpowered no matter how much we could slice them.

Ok.. maybe I"m missing something but... when I set the ship to autopilot to a station, if I get out of the pilot chair, the ship stops. Wasn't that the point of Auotpilot so I could get out of the chair...

Well, In your YT-1300's pilot manual it specifically states that the Stock Auto-Pilot system requres the thermal energy created from your arse while in the seat.

Geez man.
