Thread: Heavy atmosphere around here ...

I made Jedi a few weeks ago, and finally had to drop all smuggler but the dirty fighting tree. I need better offense and defense, and you can’t slice a Lightsaber. For the first time ever I had to look around for a slicer to get some new armor hooked up, and guess what? It’s been 2 weeks and I can’t find one. No sign of the revamp anytime soon, as I knew would be the case months ago. No matter how much GreenMarine wants to work on this prof, they’re not going to let him. This forum is indeed dead.

I got it! What we need to do is this...

All of us in the smuggler community grind up to become jedi. Then make our second character slots into smugglers. Once we are jedi we can bring up the smuggler profession and maybe they'll listen because we're jedi!! That's the ticket!!

I'm a space geek for sure so EQ2, WOW and all the others dont interest me. I love Star Wars and love the concept of this game, over all SWG's is not bad and as time goes on it will get better. With that said I hate the fact that 2 of the most prolific professions (BH and Smuggler) are treated with less repect then a Chef. I hate the fact that SOE refuses to communicate with its clients, I hate the fact that Jedi is the be all and end all of the game and I hate the fact that much needed and promised profession re-vamps have been stalled for months. This game has so much potential, smuggler, BH and several other professions could be just as much fun as Jedi but the dev's seem to not get that. Every profession other then Jedi has been side lined and nerfed and that is so, so wrong. I want to live my saga, the saga of a smuggler.

Well as far as posts go, I'm a little reluctant. A few days ago I posted a question about a privateer special here, as I tend to do since in the past people here are more helpful than anywhere else, when some old timer/megaposter/community advisor spanked me for making an inappropriate post and told me to go to another forum, which was kind of funny since there were a bunch of posts pitting various characters from TV and movies against each other that had nothing to do with smuggler, which he didn't similiarly chastize. This made me a little reluctant to post here, as did the seeming agreement with his directive to go somewhere else. It made me feel a little less at home here and a lot more reluctant to make any post that isn't directly relevant to the profession.

I'm sorry you were spanked, maybe you were taken for someone considering that being a privateer gives you the right to proclain yoursef a smuggler. Lots of us are really pissed off by the fact that anyone without a single smuggler skill has access to simili smuggler content, including being a part of the smuggler alliance.

I would suggest you shouldn't consider this incident as a general spanking, that's just that people are getting nervous and this smuggler alliance thing has a tendancy to light some fires in certain people's mind.

I've been slumming in the shipwright and pilot forums a lot lately. They're all such angry people.

With each other, I mean. At least us smugglers are united against the devs. God this is a great forum.

WIth all the people we see leaving the game, all the ones giving up smugglers, we slowly but surely see the smuggler population decrease. I have noticed that for a few days or weeks, there are less posts on the boards, we all have started our own ranting one, we try petitions, we try community letters, we wonder what other games are like...

All in all we are very unstatisfied with what we have, and the way we are dealt with.Senior members of the boards do not come around anymore, and step by step the spirit of fun that made this forum the most enjoyable of all is slipping off.

Not that i would say we have no reason to complain, and you know i'm in the first line standing sides with all of you, but i think we have reached a point where our morale is too low (maybe we have too much battle fatigue?).

I miss the time where we had more funny threads, i miss the times where we were proud of our being smugglers, i miss the times where i was a smuggler on the boards as well as in game.

The progression is not really a surprise, we have been master patient, then master cynic, and now we qualify for master outraged, but i wish we could surrender those skills, the sooner the better.

For what this thread can do, let's hope the devs help us in our way back to a cooler behaviour.

Yeh, I too have noticed this.. I was hoping that the drop in people was due to JtL being released and everyone just being sucked into playing it none stop. It seems this might not be the case .

I certainly hope that change comes, but I know it won't come soon - development on something as complex as SWG takes a great deal of time and while some mayargue that a great deal of it has been wasted and/or misspent in the past and this is continuing to go on, we can't know for sure how the Devs are treating us now, as we won't see the results of their efforts for a while to come.

I certainly think that since SOETyrant came on board things have changed and for the better. While it may not seem it, I believe the stance they now have on only talking about"What's now and what's next"is a good thing and shows that the team are tightening up and becoming more focused ongetting the gameto where it should be.

Ya the general lack of communication used to bug me too. Now it doesnt, I mean what could they possibly say that would be believed?

Its time for them to start producin', I think they have realized this too. GM was a great inspiration to the smuggler community but at the same time he (through no fault of his own) has become one of the biggest disappointments in Smuggler history.

Our hopes have been raised many times in the last 18 months to be dashed every single time on the craggy rocks of higher priority projects.

I think that in the long run its better for them to be silent unless they have something positive to say.

Well, there are two parts about having bad feelings about this...

The first one involves communications, we have been lied, mislead, ignored, banned, censored...

The second evolves our specific game issues, that are spice downer's nerf, crate auto-pulling, FD still keeping the agro, Panic Shot breaking, faction trading taking ages, spices rendered useless... and finally the mythological revamp.

As i see it, they are pretty independant, even if each time we were screwed by the comm people it was about some tech issue.

I have the feeling that communication issues are what really does make people angry, willing to quit (at least the profession, and more generally the game). If we had clear, regular and constructive contact with some of those redmanes (whoever they want, just someone that is related to the game), those contacts would not be conflictual.

The day a guy comes here and say "ok folks, we screwed up all along, let's start again from scratch and be constructive", i know we will be glad to make things move, and even if wary we would be willing to go forward.

Thisis what should happen when they come around here and start talking about the revamp, and hopefully it will be. in the meanwhile however we have to preserve our behavior, being cool is what makes us smuggler, having good times here is what defines us.

So please fellow business partners, stay yourselves, carry on and go over all the eagerness that we have. Show them we are worth their time, show them what they miss not coming here.

@kgmkiorys:

exactly!
its that nobody talks to us.
everybody know that we are screwed like hell...but why cant they just say "we see your issues...and we know theres a e.g. FD problem we are aware of...but due to blabla bugfix in JTL, we pushed it back to Decembre 2007."

That will piss us all...but that wont piss us as much as lieing, misleading, banning, etc. pisses us.

along with the increase of posts from people dropping smuggler.
____

IMHO this won't be the way to make the DEVs realize they need to communicate not only with their customers but their management team on a revamp. I feel we need to have more smugglers join to increase visibility on the fact people do like this profession. I stated in another post I am new to SWG (5months) and was a Master Swordsman, Master Brawler and Master Merchant. I started reading the boards (eventually joined the boards) and more importantly the smuggler forum. I then decided to be a smuggler (dropping merchant) and probably won't be dropping it...Although, I'm still undecided.

Maybe it's a long shot but I think if they see more folks joining the smuggler community in SWG that may bring more attention. If they see that the smugglers are all gone I can see SOE deciding to eliminate the profession altogether.

....then again maybe it's just me.
