Thread: A letter to my fellow Smugglers and various red named individuals

Words I think many of the profession communities should heed.

Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends

Datink,

Although I love what you took the time to type, I must agree with several others - I was not, and will not flame people on message boards, I feel if I can't say it to their face, why bother!

But, Smuggler is broken... Period. And I don't see anything being done to fix it. In fact I see the developers worried more about the amount of credits a player can receive in a solo group then fixing what should be as high a priority a profession in Star Wars as Jedi!

If SOE is so worried about people being too rich in the game, make resources available to all through NPC Resource brokers (at or less then 1cpu)! I know players that make 20 Million (at the least) a week doing that...

I agree that JTL needs to get up and working and things need to be done to make the LAND game as entertaining as the SPACE game, but fix the profession that makes it's mark in BOTH...

Han, Lando, Talon... Smugglers... All I am, as a Master Smuggler is a guy that spent weeks killing Gurks for Pistol XP and a few boxes with "skills" that are useless...

Until next we speak...

The above quote needs to apply for all professions and aspects of this SWG. Our community is hurting at the moment, we have had a mass exodus to other games and many of those who have stayed are stuggleing to find a reason to stick around. We need to know what the Devs are planning and doing to save this game... we need to know how you are fixing combat... we need to know how you are going to fix our professions... we need to know how you are going the GCW... we need to know that you are going to be adding content and quests, and what they will entail. We need the proverbial "carrot". WE NEED HOPE.

Unfortunatly the time has passed where you, the Devs, can say "trust us... we are working on it". Our community has been burned to many times... we need some proof that you are listening to AND understanding our concerns... you need to rebuild that trust.

We want to love this game, we want to stick around... half the battle is won for SOE and LA.

Silversaber, Aarun:

My reason for posting was to get those that flamed Tiggs and Goliath to take a step back and think about what happened. Nothing could even begin to justify us attackinganybody for introducing a player, even if they both work for SOE. Certainly there isn't anything that justifies the attacking of a fellow Smuggler just because he works for SOE. It's simply not the kind of people we are, we as a community need to make sure of this.

I understood the outpouring of anger, because I have much anger and resentment towards SOE also. However I am trying to turn it into something more positive now. I am trying to encourage a free flow of communications that is positive, rational, and most importantly peaceful between the whole community and the development team that is responsible for our profession. Granted, much has happened to sour us, but if we live in the past we'll never see our future.

I am not saying to remain silent, for it is the quiet man who is forgotten.
I am not saying we haven't been made to feel unimportant, hurt, and ignored.

What I am saying is that we are not a angry mob. We are better than this.

Again:

To those developers in whom our professions future lies. I humbly ask that you build with us a better rapport between player and developer. Quench the thirst of my fellow Smugglers, allow the free flowing of knowledge. We understand that nothing is set in stone except the birth and death of a person. This is what will heal our community. I am optimistic.

Some will share my view, and some will not. This is my way of dealing with the cards I've been dealt. Your mileage of course, may vary.

Yes, very nice. Wish I could be as magnanimous but SOE has drained me of all I ever had...

BTW, what is it with the plethora of corespondents in the Smuggler Forum lately? A red name appears here and tons of other professions show up? Kind of like groupies or something...

Wow, it's a thread like this that is worth replying to. I don't post very often anymore, in fact after the launch I didn't post much at all. Datink is spot on about this community. However it is hard to not be insanely angry about paying $15 dollars a month for a broken game.

I remember everything silversaber said! Except it was open beta and it was added in the last few weeks of beta, giving some of us just enough time to master the profession a few days before launch, and start some huge threads about how horrible it was. We did get one "fix" though; they removed the engineering/business prereqs.... Nowadays I find it hard to continue, because the one profession I wanted to play was never really added.

However, I know that Datink is correct, the community is better than a mob of flamers. I'll continue to put down my $15 a month, if only to continue to be apart of this community. Someday they will have to listen to us, someday something will happen. I would rather it happen with the respect other communities have for us intact.

Datink....incredible post

yea great letter, really, I mean it.

but be real, it's because of we're like that, that we'll NEVER get things done, just see what happened until now, we took EVERY kick in the nuts, with a GREAT smile, showing that we aint no dogs. really I think it's cool.

but in the meanwhile, look what happened all around us, jedi whiners, BH whiners, whatever whiners, THEY ALL GOT WHAT THEY ASKED FOR, within weeks, when did they first talked about jedi revamp, when did they first talked about smuggler revamp ? players who play jedi whined, petitionned, made what's worst on a forum, and they GOT WHAT THEY WANTED RIGHT IN TIME. while us, at every delaying announcement, were acting like a "quality community", trying to get dev's point and puting our anger deep within our B.... and what did we get ? nothing, we were promised a revamp with JTL, we didn't even get a word on it since months. all our great ideas, neglected, all our content spread over, open for anyone, all our bugs, still here, our master box, still blank. we have to STOP acting like dogs, I agree with that, we have to stop letting us beaten in our nuts and do like everyone else does to get what we want: make our voices heard.

I'm all for peaceful solutions, but that's not how our developpement team works.
