The only reason I can see the Dev's doing this, is that they are preparing for tool quality to have an effect on slicing. An item doesn't really use the schematic it was made with until it is pulled from a crate (this is why when they nerfed some guns, people couldn't pull pre-nerf guns from a crate the schematic no longer exsisted in game). Right now since all tools have the same effect regardless of tool quality, it could just use a generic item and didn't need to compare the schematic.

Again this is just a theory based on my limited knowlege of how things work

You're thinking too hard... this was much more likely because using PLKs from crates has been bugged forever.

That's what I was thinking, too. More than likely there were too many people reporting "My knives are being eating 1 at a time when I slice". So, to fix it for everyone I'm thinking the only code fix was for all slicing tools to require being taken from a crate before being used.

Makes sense to me and is a good workaround until a better solution is found.

What makes you think they will continue to work to find a "better solution"? Remember when they were going to go back and re-evaluate the panic shot nerf? Yeah, I'd get my hopes up....

Not much inventory spacE? HAHA I slice in sets of 50-300 at a time, this doubles the time that it takes me to do each slice!

When slicing i have noticed that if you don't pull laser knives from a crate b4 slicing you loose 1 whole 10 charge knife per slice.

Both theories of why they made the change are viable.

But we still dont have the facts.

We should wait until we get a response as to the purpose of this change before we start screaming for dev heads. That's all I'm saying.

For those of you who are doing bulk slicing...Well, clearly the time it will take to handle your bulk orders will be very difficult to manage. However, the natural reaction thusfar has been to raise our prices. So just as you will have to invest more time, youcan also have the benefit of far greater potential earnings. It will definitely be a painful experience, but hopefully one which you could profit from tremendously.

Many smugglers don't need the money, but I'd be willing to wager that those, who don't care about slicing to make a living, are least affected by the changes.

So far this is the speculation that I have seen in this thread so far to explain this nerf is

1) Inventory space. This is a non-starter, since you will just be taking your two knives, clamp and upgrade kit out of crates that is only 4 items that immediately disappear. No this cannot be for that.
2) Some sort of pre-nerf to add quality matters to smuggler tools. Too early for that I think and it is not clear that would matter, after all regular crafting takes from crates fine and there quality matters.
3) Some sort of nerf on leveling slicing. This is not particularly compelling and if it was remove the restriction at master when leveling does not matter. They just improved things for Master ID after all (1/2 time, or no time).
4) Only one knife consumed when slicing from crates bug. This I think is the most likely reason, however it is not compelling.

Exactly what massive game breaking, economy altering damage was being caused by smugglers using one knife instead of two? Was it so game breaking that it necessitated increasing the number of clicks to slice a weapon by a factor of 2 (4 before, 8 now including crates).

In one ill concieved nerf the developers have double the amount of pointless work that a smuggler has to do, and why? because they cannot fix a bug with the slicing interface?

The developers have cut off our nose to spite our face on this one.

I say hotfix this back to the way it was and put in a fix when you have taken the time to fix it right.
