With JTL, everyone that gets the expansion will have aship, which the need for smuggler for travel will be greatly reduced. I like the option of getting past pirates in space if grouped with a smuggler. We need some more ideas for grouped travel.

Hi all,
I don't post here often and I havent read all the boards and posts etc, so sorry if i've been over something said before. I just had an idea about smugglers in space which also links in with the Bh/Jedi hunting saga! I just thought it might be quite good if while jedi (and maybe rebels)are in space the Imperial starships, spacestations etc conduct scans for Jedi vessels, Or Jedi somehow, then relaying the jedi's location (if he/she is detected) to a hunting BH. Either thator their visibility increases. (I don't have any idea on how this would work or anything just throwing out an idea.) However when Jedi travel with smugglers (like Luke with Han :smileyhappy
They are less likely to be detected. The futher up the smuggling tree the smugglers are, the better they are at concealing their friends. This could also be a reason for jedi (and possibly all rebels) to avoid spaceports where of course there are lots of Imperials, also giving another source of income for smugglers. As a group of two (a jedi and a smuggler) isn't much of a group, this system could also work for all Rebels ( but instead of the BHs being involved the spacestations would simply try to shoot down the rebel ships. )
Hope that made sence and wasn't such a bad idea!

Regarding Smugglers and Travel....
How about the ability to "call in a favor with the pilot" perhaps, having him "drop you or your group off" at Shuttleports when arriving from other planets. I.e., leave Coronet and arrive in Fort Krayt! My guess is this would be too hard to implement, but would be a very nice perk!
Apologies if this has already been suggested... I don't get to read the forums as much as I would like.

Caylin,
You mentioned something that made a lot of sense to me, andthat is bribe. I think bribe should be a new smuggler skill. So if you fail a scan you can attempt a bribe and maybe you succeed and pass or if you fail you get a harsher punishment, so this new skill has a penalty to balance it out. I think there could be a lot of potential for bribes. And it fits within the ideal of a smuggler.
Bribe to get on a transport quicker, bribe a npc to get inside info on a dungeon or bounty hunter missions, and if BH smuggler missions are going to be introduced, you should be able to attempt a bribe to escape.

I think it would a nice idea if the SMUGGLERS made a "concealed compartment" that shipwrights could use. Thats my 2 credits....

Speed. Call me crazy, but a good Smuggler knows his ship and how to fly it. Barking orders to the group to handle certain subsystems to get everything out of his ship when he has to run from larger and deadlier vessels. Probably in conjunction withpilot prof. As well, gunnery tactics more able to stall or slow down approaching ships. The ability to access certain parts of the galaxy using routes few others know about. Concealing his refugees when his ship is trapped or caught.. the vessel is awash in concealed cargo areas, bays and internal structure. I think it'd be a good idea to have a optional component for smuggler holds via shipwrights for use in YT-100 transports. How this is accessed or IF its accessed is of discussion. Seems proper to me though. "Nothing here, your free to go." Tough call, because we're not sure about how JTL will ultimately feel and play out

Some thoughts based on movie events:
- Smugglers and group combat.
A fearing attack that could spook off multiple opponents for a few seconds; like Han did in episode 4. This would bring a last ditch type attack to a group, of course for balancing purposes any feared opponent that is attacked after the move would break the fear.
- Smugglers and group travel No additional thoughts
- Smugglers and contraband in groups No additional thoughts
- Smugglers and groups in dungeons.
The only dungeon type film moment I can remember is Han trying to hotwire the door to the imperial base on Endor. He failed that badly, however was able to fast talk his way in. I am not sure how fast talk could be integrated into a group dungeon environment but it would be fitting. Also, niether method should be foolproof as he couldn't quite talk his way out of the prison cell in Ep4 either; perhaps both options could be available.

That is all the movie type references I can think of.

Something happend to me in Eisley the other day which i thought was really cool and does hold some reference to whats been said about Smugglers in groups distracting patrols, slipping them creds or just plain bluffing.
2 players in full stormtrooper armour were in the eisley cantina and asking for other players ID (bless there littrle roleplaying hearts). Anyway i was in the middle of a slice in the back room and grouped with a wookie friend o mine by the name of lojack. The Stormtrooper players interuped what i was doing and started a whole conversation about id and spice dealing. To keep in spirit i roleplayed back telling them this wookie was a susspected rebel activist and that i was taking him to bestine for interogation. They accepted thatand went away.
ok how does that tie in ? easy. Like many have said THAT is the type os situation a Smuggler finds himself in sometimes. They should definately have the ability to converse with NPC troopers insepcting them and try and pursade them that they arnt who they are looking for.
I know its kinda off topic but it also realtes to Smugglers and contrabnd within a group. If players can do this then why cant an npc?

I personally love this idea very much. If you group with a smuggler and are flying in formation, a smuggler might know the pirates personally or be able to sweet-talk a way around a fight because of his/her knowledge of the underworld and the issues that comprise it!
"Yea, I know how you feel we're just trying to keep the Empire off our backs. Yea, Katarni was able to sneak past that blockade we just slipped through too. Isn't he one of yours?", a smuggler says to a pirate... sweet-talking him into showing some form of compassion.
"Yea, good to hear he made it through.... times are hard when you deal with the Empire," replies the pirate. "I tell you what come on through this sector, it's pretty clean.. I'll alert the guys not to blast you! Hehe"
"Hell yea bro! Thanks alot. Pleasure meeting you sir!"

Good stuff. We need a role in this Universe, and fast. 'Smuggler Bonus' to Ranged Defense to everyone in the group is cool, evasion of scans for the entire group is good (maybe if they get 'caught' only the smuggler is penalized?)... Smugglers being able to increase the power of certain systems in a ship is good, or will be in a few months...
Is this thread implying at all that any of this stuff may be included in the CB?

5. Smugglers and groups in space.
Just gonna comment on this question, since im looking forward to a smuggler having a new medium to finally blossom.
1. A smuggler's underworld branch should be replaced by a dirty tacticsspace combat line. Hands down he should be the best pilot out of all the proffesions with his own unique ship.
2. A new area of Bounty Hunters can be opened here as the smuggler can try transport contraband and human cargo (his group)from one place to the next while being tracked and hunted down.
3. The ability of knowing most languages can come into play here as he can disguise his ship to get passed factional checkpoints, when carrying illegal cargo or items.
4. To a degree he should be able to tinker andslightly upgrade the condition and weapons on his and others ships for a price. Maybe something extra in the slicing branch.
5. Inside a Smugglers ship, there should be activities to do, manning a turret for the entiretime will probably become boring. Maybe a couple of gambling games, a lounge with that funky chess game, or aSabacc table.
Most of the ideas i get from a smuggler are primarily from the movies. Han was able to repair his ship, outrun star destroyers, elude Boba Fett for quite awile, and battle 3-4 Tie fighters at once. He even snuck up behind Vader to shoot him away. Where was Vader's force to alert him? ah stealthy also.
and remember:
"Traveling through hyperspace isn't like dusting crops, boy!

who needs the force when you've got a good blaster, a case of mulon, and a wookie friend by your side !?!?
