1. Make sliceditems unavalible for vendor sale.

2. Place an NPC next toselect cantina's and criminal theme parksthat only smugglers(any lvl)can use to load spice into and any player can use to buy spice.

Something like that?

Sliced items unavailable for sale... period. Not just weapons.

If we ever get a robust and controllable slicing implementation, there will be no need for bulk slicing orders of either armor or weapons as each person coming to us with an item will want it converted to their personal need.

My only worry with this is that it might be construed as stepping on the merchant's toes; it could be seen, in essence, as simply shifting their ability to use vendors to Smugglers, for free.

Perhaps if those in PC cities acted like a bazaar terminal for spices, while those placed in player cantinas or player cities would require interaction with several Smugglers in order to have them successfully sell spices?

One idea I had (which I really like to make dealing in contraband a profitable business for the smugglerwhileADDING value to the merchant treewas to let the smuggler operate an effective "turf".

The idea is that Merchants would have a new player listing option on their vendors called "associate" or something - where they could entera Smuggler's name.
If the Merchant had a Smuggler Associate listed, then the merchant would be able to stock sliced goods / contraband -- and the smuggler would get a kick back.

This would allow the smugglers to build a small area of influence ... a kind of "protection" racket. And if aMerchant wanted to dabble in the black market ... he'd better get his blessing first.

Some Details to the idea:

  • Merchants only be allowed to place contraband on a vendor if that vendor had an associated underworld contact ... a smuggler associate.

  • Smugglers should be able to set their kick back level (say 1-5% of sale price) so that smugglers can compete in turf wars.

  • There should be a modifier in the Smuggler tree that increases the number of vendors they can control in their turf at any given time.

  • The ability to have a smuggler associate should be granted somewhere in the Merchant skill tree (not be a universal option on vendors ... artisan business 3 would not be skilled enough merchant to successfully deal on the black market)

This would be good because:

  • Dealing in the underworld now pays.

  • It gives the smuggler a needed / valuable role in the economy ... without causing balance issues or scanning lag issues...etc

  • This lets the Merchants sell what they want ... but adds a feel of illegality to certain items. They need the expertise / connections of a smuggler associate to sell effectively on the black market.

  • as a bonus it adds some value to a merchant box

I play a master merchant and a master smuggler ... and I want both to be a valuable profession. It's important that Merchants be able to stock their vendors as they see fit ...but it's totally reasonable toexpectdealing in illegal goods to have an added overhead or risk.

I'm all for making sliced items unsellable from a vendor or the bazaar... it's supposed to be illegal. Although I would REALLY like the Devs to fix slicing to make it less of a chore and more user-friendly. I also want to be able to pick what kind of slice I do, it's just idiotic to think that I have no idea what property of the weapon I am tweaking.

As for the spice merchant in the cantinas... well, in order for it to be a viable idea, spices would have to be changed to be something that people would actually want to buy.

Eh. I'd rather have my shop where I want it. In my cantina, in my home, where ever.

Did we have an idea for some sort of scan and punish system for Underworld vendors? I want to be able to have an "under the counter" business. I don't want my merchanting to go to waste. I became a merchant to sell my illegal stuff, not be an honest businessman. I'd be willing, as a merchant to pay more maintence for a "Black market dealer" that gets investigated, or staked out or busted or fined or whatever. For instance what if he got "ratted out" (ie: failed a scan) and I had a squad of cops camped out on my doorstep scanning everyone coming in and out of my shop including me?

That's exactly why I proposed the kick-back idea I offered a few posts above...

It lets the merchants be merchants...and choose if they want to pay more to a fence (a smuggler, yay!)in order to sell on the black market.

While I'm concerned about stepping on merchant's toes, I'm just as concerned about not doing the right thing for Smugglers. It canbe hard to gauge where the lines between professions meet sometimes, but in this case I see it as fairly clear cut;Merchants provide an easier access to legal items crafted by legal professions, Smugglers (should)provide access to illegal items (all of whichare currently altered/crafted by Smugglers).

I can see merit in this system, but whose abilities/skills would affect whether or not the merchant would be discovered, the merchant's or the Smuggler's? If the merchant, how? and if the Smuggler's, would the Smuggler be required to own the vendor, alter the vendor in some way, or simply put their name to it as its supplier/teacher/mentor?

First and foremost contraband should be banned from the bazaar.

Second I do not mind contraband on private vendors BUT with two qualifications;

1. Contraband should NOT be searchable galaxy wide.

2. Vendors with contraband should be subject to scans with serious consequences for discovery buy law enforcement.

Without #2 then I say NO contraband on vendors.

I meant, Wes for MERCHANTS to have special vendors, not smugglers. But if they ARE smugglers, their vendors get some if not all of the evasion skill.

Spinning Cloud I have no problem with either of those two requirements. The only problem with the second one is the feasibility of it's implementation.

I'm pleased that you guys like the idea.

I'm both a M.Smuggler and M.WS and Merchant though on differant characters, still the same server.

I came up with the "sliced item = banned from bazaar/vendors" at a recent WS chat, as a responce that some WS are force out of business because they don't have means to sell Presliced weapons.

Personally i don't care that muchif sliced weapons are sellable on vendors, but it's helps smuggler and adds more interaction between a weaponsmith and his/her costumers, so it's all good for me.

I'd prefer that sliced goods weren't sellable off vendors/bazaar but only through the trade window.
