Thread: I think we need an option C on the Vendor/contraband poll

I don't know why this is so difficult....
1. No contraband on the bazaar...that's a no-brainer IMO.
2. Contraband on player vendors is fine IF you want to take the chance for serious repercussions should a scan party wander by.
3. Smuggler's vendors have less of a chance getting scanned and caught with contraband.
How much simpler could it get?
1. That is a no brainer.
2. Scanning parties on players is not very effective, what's to say that it will be on vendors? Better yet, I have yet to see many scanning parties near shops which means it would be even less effective. You would need to come up with some other sort of check to balance the fact that someone is selling contraband.
3. Smuggler's having vendors is infringing on Merchant territory as things stand now. Until some things change about the profession and it's prereqs, it's not fair to the Merchants since we're not even required to have a single artisan skill.
The point is, for what you say to be a solution would not be so simple. Scans create problems on their own which is why people are more recognised because of their faction not their gear (hopefully that changes some with the next publish). We've spent a lot of time going over ideas with GM because of this fact. Adding vendors and their hundreds of items to the mix would definitely not be simple. That's why I had the idea of a check at purchase since it would possibly be less stressful to the system as well as more effective than random scans which are too few and far between to be effective because of how they stress the system.
Smuggler vendors would probably be even less simple since you're talking about a profession giving up what they exist for. It's not like Merchants have too much of a purpose except to be the vendors of the community.

I agree, except not 100% on #3
The problem I have with the poll is it is black and white. I truly think that the wholesale vending of contraband with no reprecussion is something we can all agree on. And I do belive people a selecting A soley because it is rampant and needs to be curtailed at the very least.
I just don't want a black and white community response going to the DEV's when it's not a black and white issue.

Well, I'm not claiming my idea was the best but what I'm saying is that SOME method of letting players put contraband on their vendors is nice IF there is a way to make it dangerous.
A check on purchase would work for me.
Unfortunately, knowing how SOE works, anything other than the black-or-white no contraband vs. contraband with no risk will be way too complicated for them.
I see why only two choices were given in the poll...they are the only two EXPEDIENT choices that SOE is likely to even consider. My vote in that case is still 'A' - no contraband on vendors.
I'm sorry but from their track-record they simply are not going to bend over backwards to do anything for us...and I belive that about the so-called revamp as well.
I agree about their track record, but the more this appeals to both professions that it effects, the better chance we have. We saw what happened when there were multiple professions (the merchants and the crafters, not to mention Jedi and BH with FD) united against/for a change.
Somehow I see the choices being for the right now while it gets better addressed during profession revamps. That's where the catch comes in. If our prerequisites change and we now have to have Business IV, then there's no problem with us having vendors. If things stay relatively the same, then we'll have to find a way to work with Merchants on this and I really don't see them accepting us having vendors. I'd rather get them to concede to something and make the system better than black and white.
