Thread: Stop Slicing?

Sadlymost people will just go to the WS/Smuggler vendors to buy weapons or a slicer looking to make a buck. But I do agree with the idea and will stop slicing for Bounty Hunters just on principle. I'm also re-thinking my position on Smugglers being added to the BH terminals at this point I want little or nothing to do with them.

Don't forget the idea of slicing the BH terms to remove Jedi from the list...
At this point, the only reason I'd want to slice a BH term is to ADD more Jedi...
I've got no use for either profession at this point, and I didn't think my loathing for Jedi could get any stronger...I was wrong...
There would be many smugglers who'd never even heard of the strike, doing business as usual - maybe even still at 100 credits per %... I'd support it in a heartbeat if I thought it would work, but I just don't see it happening.

A good 1/2 of all crafters have a guildmate or an alt who is a slicer. Never will you be able to get all smugglers to stop slicing, like myself. I love to slice. I would not stop doing so.
I have to agree with you. I will, however, be upping my prices considerably if this stupid "fix" goes live.

Well ..... im gonna up my prices a little.... and
hey guys you know what!
IF YOU SEE ANY BOUNTY HUNTER AND THEY ASK FOR SLICING EITHER TAKE IT AND NOT GIVE IT BACK OR EVEN BETTER PICK THE WRONG WIRE THAT WAY IT WONT BE SLICED EVER AGAIN!
Taking an item for slicing and not giving it back is scamming, and it drags the whole profession into disrepute. As for picking the wrong wire - it's not scamming, but certainly won't give you a good rep. You may be angry now, but that bad rep might stick with you long after your anger fades.

In response to the second post, I've also upped my slicing prices. I used to charge 10k if the customer got the type of slice he wanted, no charge otherwise. Now I'm going for 10k flat fee, so I've doubled my prices on average. I don't especially like slicing, I never have, so if it's going to be one of the last things I have from my skill points in master smuggler, the public can either pay me well for it or find someone else.
You mean there are still people charging a pricing scheme that is over 16 months old?!?!?!? ( 100cr/% )
Wow that is INSANE! I got my whole server to charge 10k per slice this time LAST YEAR!
I haven't seen anyonecharging that on Eclipse recently, butI saw a few not that long ago. Maybe 6 months ago, on Infinity, I met a master smuggler who charged 75 cr per %, and insisted that anything more was "greedy"! I didn't argue much (I wasn't a smuggler and wanted him to slice for me, so the low price was to my benefit), but I was stunned at how much he was underpricing his skills.

I'll point this out again, just like I've done every time a "strike" has been proposed.
The flaw in your logic is that you assume people actually **NEED** our services, which they don't.
Smugglers provide two services to the community at large: Spices and Slicing.
Spices can be pretty much forgotten about with the use of food and doc buffs, and they're not used that much anyway...so it wouldn't be a big deal if the spice flow suddenly stopped across the board.
Slicing is easily replaced by the use of powerups. Not only that, but there's enough WS / Smugglers or AS / Smugglers out there, or WS and AS with Smuggler alts, that sliced item vendors would still get stocked regardless.
Then there's the issue that there's no way in hell that you'd ever get 100% of the actual Smugglers, whose main accounts are Smugglers to go along with it. There would inevitably be the guys who raise their prices and keep slicing for the public just to make an extra cred or two.
So, while your heart may be in the right place. Putting it into effect would be pretty much impossible.
oh come on. don't rain on our grieving parade.
if it makes us feel better to talk about i'm all for it. hehe
but seriously now.. my main is a smuggler. I don't sell FP. that's not my source of income. I do slice to the public though, so that would be my form of strike... but that's me. i like the idea of an afk macro when someone asks for a slice..

yes let's stop ALL smuggler related events. Let's almost take ourselves out of the game. Given that Star Wars SHOULD have a large underworld element I'm sure we'd make out presence (or lack of) felt very quickly.
SHOULD being the operative word here. Should.
Given that it doesn't, really, if what it does have goes missing, will it actually be missed?
