While I find the whole profession to be a bit ridiculous (Do Jedi or Bounty-Hunters have to invent their intended purpose with "role-playing?" Or Creature-Handlers, Riflemen, Brawlers, Pilots, Bio-Engineersor Weaponsmiths? Shall we go on, or do you see a trend too?), I'm still here. So much of my online identity is the nasty scoundrel role, that doing something else would require that I start over from scratch. I've long since given up on slicing for chump-change, crafting useless spices or hawking faction in the current state of the GCW. Hell, with the current state of Pistoleer, I only carry a handgun around now for appearances. But I can't give it up.

At this point, you don't become a Smuggler for the skills. They'll be fun at first, but they're all pretty trivial. Youearn Smuggler for the title, and tojoin the brotherhood of your fellow Smugglers. We may be small (and apparently pretty insignificant), but boy can we roar! D'AArrrgh!

I stumbled into the smuggler line of work as a stepping stone

Thinking that i wanted to be one of the "elite"

No sooner had I given it up, I saw the error of my ways

You are what you are, you find fun it what you enjoy

No, we don't transport illegal goods from one place to another

No, we don't get attention or fixes

but I can't stop being a rogue

of the 20 something proffs I've tried, this one has been the best fit for me

and yeah, I'd do it again

Idont think seeing more posts in the dev tracker is a bad thing. As for answering questions, lets hope they are about photoshop

Careful, who know, you might suddenly find your PM box filled by desperate Photoshop help requests from a few dozen soon-to-be-artists.

Well before I read the posts of others I will offer my advice....

being like Han Solo and moving illegal goods from point A to point B

Well though it is what smugglers do, I dont think Han did much of this. I think most of his time was spent running from Bounty Hunters because he ripped off Jabba. But it was Jabba's fault for not contacting CSR immediately. Anyways....

Don't be discouraged from the forums. It would be like judging a book by its cover. Will I go to another profession? Only if they totally scrap the profession. I don't know how you game but my gaming experience has been fantastic. I do wish the smugglers of Bria were a bit more social and more in touch with one another, but then I dont think any profession is like that. The smugglers I have met are great people and love to talk to, minus a few. Business never seems to end and frequently have to turn people away. My hunting friends are always happy to have me in the group. There never seems to be a dull day. Would I regrind it? Well if the death star destroyed Bria, you will find me on the nearest server grinding it all over again

Well, when he wasn't frozen in carbonite, han did move wanted people from one place to another. (Luke and Obi-Wan). Also he did try to go back to his boss and finish his mission :-P.And the other "scoundral" (Lando) was maskarading around as a politican/mineral prospector, and hated Hon for blowing a former deal..... Sounds all very Smuggler to me.....

After reading the forums I wonder if I'm about to kill my entire gaming experience... I'm starting to wonder if I should invest my time in another profession.

I have such dreams to be a smuggler, being like Han Solo and moving illegal goods from point A to point B - while hoping to not be busted by the authorities.... but it's not going to be that way for me is it?

So I guess my real question is - if you could do it all over again, would you regrind Smuggler or try another profession? If you would try a different profession, what would it be? I'm looking for a little guidance here.....

Simple answer: In a heartbeat, I would go Smuggler.

The main difference in Smuggler is that the game is what YOU make of it.

If I had it to do all over again...I'd still be a Smuggler...

Every time I sit down and look at a character builder, the first thing I usually highlight is Master Smuggler, if not Master, then at least part of the profession anyway...

I started a Merchant alt on Starsider a couple of weeks ago, and the first thing I did, before I picked up any Artisan or Merchant, was grind through the Underworld tree (for future FP plans)...

As much as I hate the neglect that this profession has suffered, I love the community so much that I don't think I could ever truly give up Smuggler. After a while, it just becomes part of your blood...

I'm prettysure I'ddo Master Smuggler again.

Although I'm really not sure why. I started this email listing the pros and cons, and man the cons seem to outweigh the pros - but maybe that's part of the appeal of it i - who knows.

I'd strongly recommend you read the thread stickied at the top of each page called "A Chuckle for the Smuggler" and while you'll laugh - you'll also acquaint yourself with situations that do occur <sigh>.

And as a bonus, it's always fun giving another smuggler you meet the Secret Smuggler Handshake

Good Luck.

Check the sig. I've mastered smuggler 3 times. Once pre-hologrind, Once post-hologrind, and again after I unlocked.

Smuggler has the potential to be the most fun profession to play in the game if they would just do something with the profession.

I am still a smuggler - but in light of waiting 14 months now for an opportunity to SMUGGLE ... or 11 months since the promised "we do it in autumn 2003" post (which has become quite infamous now) .... I would have played another profession in the meantime.

Even worse - I am smuggler pistoleer - TWO borked professions. And i was architect - a dead end profession. And with another toon a droid engineer - which was downright masochism for 10 months, but is ok now.

I am shipwright now and therefore quite busy. So I am not changing my combat template part at the moment ... but I recommend you drop smuggler now, become rifleman or swordsman for a while to be effective and come back to smuggler when the Smuggler Revamp hits (err ... autumn 2008 ish).

BE a smuggler in space. Become privateer and fly a YT1300. Have some illegal stuff on board. Make a player event ... leak some info where you start and where you MIGHT land. Have other players escort you or try to intercept you and shoot out your engines ... if they capture (not destroy you) they force you to land somewhere and you hand over the contraband.

So BE a smuggler .. but for now dont waste your points with the smuggler profession unless you love slicing or want to earn money selling faction points (which is nice, but it has NOTHING to do with smuggler). If you want to have feign death ... go for it. But you wont be a good fighter - go for RM or SM instead.

Have fun
