Thread: Slicing Sucks

Actually he spoke very little about combat only that he feels the skills we were given don't work as they should. It was stated that smugglers would be the best at crowd control. In my opinion they have some pretty good skills but truth be told I get more use out of my pistoleer crowd controls than my smuggler ones.

The pistoleer stopping shot roots the enemy and they stay there where as the Smuggler's Concussion Shot may root the target it is disabaled as soon as the target takes damage.

Anyway that's a side bar and I agree the smuggler skills are not what they should be in combat.

The topic however is about slicing... now I went into the CU asa Master Smuggler so I am not 100% sure but it seems that to get through the slicing tree now you have to get pistol xp. I have also noticed that one of the specials for combat actually comes from the slicing tree.... this to me makes no sense.

Slicing also used to be a pretty decent way to make a living. Granted it was slightly boring just cutting wires all the time but it was solid and we could craft most of the things we needed ourselves with the exception being Weapon and Armor upgrade kits, which I also did not mind as it required us to either explore another profession or to interact with someone who could provide us with the equipment.

Now no such relationship exists. While the initial system is rather interesting in my opinion and requires a lot more brain activity than before, the fact that all of our tools for slicing must come from loot drops is rediculous. If you think about it for a minute, the items we use for slicing are mechanic in nature thus they have to be made so why can't a player make them?

Also the slicing percentage increase seems so little, compaired to the risk of actually going into a rather dangerous area to get our high end slice equipment. High risk should mean high reward. If we go out and get this item for slicing risking our neck we should get paid more and people will not pay more for 8% increases. 20% probably...30% certainly but not 8%.

So the problems with slicing are 2 in my eyes.

1. The increases are minimal and the risk is high for items that give the most increase thus people will not want to pay as much as we deserve for our time in not only obtaining the item but also attaching the item giving the item the increase.

2. All of our slicing equipment is now non craftable and must be looted. We have an entire branch dedicated to these skills we should at least get a break here. I mean not even the Jedi have this problem.

The questions I have to ask are:

1. Why on earth did SOE remove slicing XP

2. Why on earth did they replace it with pistol XP

3. Why on earth are we not able to provide our own tools for our own craft?

Now as I stated before I like the concept of the slicing we have now. I think it's great we can now choose what to slice and how much to slice it and gauge that against the customization percentage. Makes for great brainwork.

but I've lost my faith and have a hard time believing that we'll ever see smuggling content in this game.

in fact I beat the crap out of a MBH/Master Caribineer yesterday using these two specials and placed shot, boy he was pissed

About having to loot camp, in order to slice. I don't think SOE ever meant for us to be loot campers. I think the point is to make a full slice rare and expensive. To give us the feeling that slicing is illegal and not as widespread as it used to be. When people ask me for a slice I expect them to supply the parts. My time is too valuable to camp the same mobs for hours, and if people complain, I tell them to find another smuggler. In fact, I think that SOE meant for people to gathter the parts for a slice, then find a smuggler to do the slice. IT is open for discussion wether this is a good idea, but the point is, that SOE never meant for us to loot camp...

It would be much more locical if smugglers could RE all that loot crap (CDEF pistols/carbines/rifles T21 ...) to get the components for a slice. RE is already in the game but what has a delicate crafted toolkit to do inside a krayts stomach?

I would be awesome if smugglers crafted their own parts, make the % based on resource quality and/or named resources just like every other crafting profesion.

Oh, and 99% of Jedi rely on loot drops for 60% of their damage output, far more than any other profesion (pearls and crystals), which is borked ATM so don't feel bad.
