buddy of mine maeztro told me about this one...
master pistoleer
master marksman
novice commando (for Launcher Pistol)
from here on i customized it to whatever
TKA 4-4-0-4
Commando 0-1-0-0
Smuggler 0-0-4-0
i think thats just about right.

if you want a PvP templae, look into Fencer. You can stack up dodge defense (although 125 is a cap), and fencer also has some ranged and state (KD, stun, etc.) defenses.

Variety? I used to be a scout/entertainer/medic/pistoleer/ranger/marksman/brawler/smuggler/artisan/squad leader/CH. Yes, all at the same time. It was great until I realized that I was out of skill points and capped in all my xp pools 1 monthafter the game came out. Yes, I was a gimp.

im doing master pistoleer and master smuggler then just using the rest of the points to dabble. I really enjoy the scout skills to harvest and the artisan skills to collect resources.

If you want an all around template then I love the tripple master, you defenses aren't as good as pistol, fencer, smuggler 0040 but its a great template none the less. I love it.

Triple Threat is good, but I'm bias
It all depends what you want to do. PvE, PvP, Crafting, theres a nice link in the important link for smuggler section.
PvP I'd go triple master or get novice commando with medic 0040 (stim Ds are insane) you should have a couple of dabble points left over. I had some success as a Master Smuggler / Master Rifleman / TKA 4000 / Pistoleer 3040 (before you say anything I know dodge does not work when pistols arn't equiped) I just found that master rifleman was far to boring, I could only spam headshot 3 so much.
PvE Commando is good for Luncher pistol (only pistol with blast damage good for elders
turrets and AT-ST
)
Crafting: I'd probably go either WS or AS as you can slice your own gear.
Social: You could always go dancer musician and set up your own sleezy cantina with a merchant where people go to get buffed, buy stuff and get slices from you.
What I've tried but never mastered artisan, brawler, medic, marksman, scout, commando, creature handler, merchant weaponsmith. Before you get stuck in a profession try it out and drop it if you don't like it. And if you end up not liking a profession you can always drop it.

Well, I Mastered Weaponsmith before Mastering Smuggler. I've also Mastered Artisan, Architect, Merchant, and most of Scout, as well as Pistoleer (and soon TKA), so I have tried variety. I simply do not have the time to spend hunting rare resources to be a crafting class, and I'd rather spend time exploring and other things than running a Vendor mall. Other combinations are nice, but the Triple Master is the best one I've come across that allows me to journey practically everywhere with at least a chance of not getting quickly eaten by some nasty beast while I'm enjoying the scenery or doing some mission/quest.
I also have a couple of alternate characters on other servers for when I want an "alternate experience", one is another full-combat character, though he is to be a Rifleman/Pikeman/TKA, so there's a little difference there, and my other is slated to be a Bio-Eng/CH with a little Fencer for defenses. Something completely different from the other two.

Indeed, there are many of us smugglers that have gone through numerous template combos. I have the same setup, one character is pretty much all combat, and the other is pretty much all crafter, so I get my SWG fix, regardless of the mood I'm in (combat crushing, or uber item making, etc) I'm currently re-adjusting my template for my Master Smuggler so I can do the Smuggler/TKA/Pistoleer triple mastery. But I'll probably drop pistoleer back down a bit to let me re-addsome medic skills(there is an underestimated value for this profession...especially if you solo adventure or work in smallergroupsalot)

drop the marksmanship tree in pistoleer and go master rifleman (my template is Master rifleman/master smuggler and 4/0/4/4 pistoleer)
Great for PvP and PvE

A new benefit to the Triple Master is the new DE10 Pistol ... although it is expensive, it is nice (I paid $5MM for mine).
And rumor is a new VK will be available in the near future for TKA.
