Skill Tree Changes:

  1. Slicing:

  2. Create additional uses for slicing using a more reliable method than we currently employ at this time.

    • Place certifications for FANs and Clamps to encourage FAN use and prevent novices from using Clamps without earning the right to use them.

    • Make it clear that quality does not matter in tool creation and use.

    • In the slicing tag, add how much the item was changed and how by the smuggler.

    • Change text in the slicing window so slicing non-mechanical items makes more sense, an example being cutting wires on stone knives.

    • Make slicing similar in fashion to crafting with experimentation points with a slicing skill modifier to represent it, allowing smugglers to adjust many different aspects of what they are slicing with some control.

      • Armor: Effectiveness (Including special protection), encumbrance, condition (In the case of PSGs).

      • Backpack: Extra number of items in a sub-compartment, limited scanner immunity.

      • Containers: Locked containers of all kinds, such as mag-seal. Scaling difficulty, more experimentation needed to open higher-level containers.

      • Counterfeit Identification: A false identification that, depending on the level of success in creation, can remove TEF, make players covert and lower their ‘Visibility’ level.

      • Doors: In dungeons and adventure zones, with scaling difficulty, more experimentation needed to open more advanced doors, they should also open for the group members with the smuggler.

      • Droids: Storage space, Armor, Weapons, Battery Use, many options here.

      • Terminals: Mission, Profession, Travel, security terminals/computers in dungeons. Increase rewards, disable systems and other useful abilities, the greater the success, the better the reward or effect.

      • Vehicles: Maneuverability, durability, acceleration/deceleration, armor, weaponry and scan protection depending on type of vehicle.

      • Weapons: HAM, damage, range modifiers, speed.

Slicing is the tree I'm most concerned with at this point, seeing as most of the others we can all agree need an overhaul. However, I'm a little confused here... by "experimentation points" are we talking a smuggler-specific experimentation (Which I don't mind) or will we all be digging around for slicing skill tapes or have to pick-upArtisan for extra experimentation to slice for people(Which I do mind)?

Caylin,

The document looks outstanding, thanks for all your hard work! I only have one suggestion. I know your personal feelings about masters being able to pick their slice but if this is to truely be a "Community" vision then p.a.s. should absolutely be mentioned as a possibility. I know this isn't the official document but p.a.s. is something many smugglers are in favor of and Ihopethat that is made clear to the devs in any and all documents they see.

Thanks!

That's covered in the slicing experimentation (Skill tree changes, slicing) where the smuggler gets to choose where they put the experimental points into (assuming Caylin is referring to his version of this in his uber document [ http://home.comcast.net/~lan2109/Revamp.html ] that is)

Yup, pick a slice is there, and in the grab-bag section seperatly, if they wont do the experimentation thing.

only part I see is bad that will affect those of us who rely on slicing as one of our revenue mainstays:

  • Players will need to grow accustomed to working without equipment that has been illegally modified in order to compete.

    • Illegal items should improve the abilities of the player, but be balanced by the risk of using or carrying them.

    • Illegal goods and services should not be commonplace improvements without significant risk.

I have a feeling if more harsher penalties occur, our slicing customers will degrade by half or more.

Well, I just remember looking at that nice smuggler and risk post, and I felt the overwhelming majority would accept a hit to their pocket books, to help in creating a real feel to the value of smuggling for the players.

As for PvP, yup, the hardcore will always want to use sliced. The increase in equipment performance is too much for them to go without.

indeed, I'm not hardcore PVP by any means, but I know I wouldn't fight anything with a weapon or armor that wasn't up to its potential. Also I have talked to alot of customers in game and asked then questions about what they would think about the harsher penalties and such for carrying sliced equiptment and the most popular response was something along the lines of

"at least it would actually have an illeagal feel to it, like its supposed to".

Don't get me wrong the other most popular response is "What!! you guys charge to much already, I'm not paying more if I get caught with it!! ", which I respond with that'll be 10K per slice sir....... LOL

well, updated a couple things, put in a contraband scan area in Salient details (Can't believe I forgot that)

Did a bit more organising, made the mention of slicing options in the grab-bag a little more noticeable.

Put one more thing in sell out, that I forgot to mention.
