Wow, would that be great or what? I wont get on my high-horse (at the moment) about how there is nothingencouraging anyone to enjoy the game at lower levels of their profession (why would you EVER get a gun from someone w/ firearms 3?) ... but I will say this:
I've been in this game since beta, and the most enjoyable time was before the pandora's box of the holo-grind was opened. Medics used to sit in med centers all day and chat with each other and their clients as they leveled for example, or get their expout on some large hunt(rather thanmacro-heal a macro-tumbler).
I don't blame anyone for grinding to master of anything (I do it myself) ... the sad fact is that there is no REAL market / value for low level players ... and since the masses have now learned how to grind all the professions in the minimal time (every profession forum now has a "how to grind this proffession" thread) ... why wouldnt they?
I hope once Space / combat / seriously-broken-professions-revamps are all in place that the DEVs go back and find ways to make leveling a profession enjoyable and not just a grind to master when the real play can begin.
... um...I guess I kinda did get on my high horse ... oops ![]()

Caylin do you think it would be unreasonable of you to planta "bug" in the dev teams ear that not only do they need to truly listen to the community when this revamp happens but that they need to do a jedi type revamp for us a ground up true, full revamp and not fix and change one or 2 things. To covey to them that for how long we have waited and for howprophetic the smuggler profession is, it deservesthe respect of a total and true revamp. Do you think they really understand that?
I think it's a safe bet that Caylin has planted that seed ... many times. The good news is we've seen with other professions (chef, Jedi, etc) that the Devs can redo a profession from the ground up...hopefully we get the same respect.
Chef and DE were not redone from the ground up. Essentially they were given crafting tweaks and schematic changes that applied specifically to their profession. Jedi themselves haven't been revamped either, as only the path to unlocking has been significantly changed. A Smuggler Revamp (a worthwhile one, anyway) would require global changes to the game that would effect every player, Smuggler and Non-Smuggler alike, as such a revamp would require the implementation of a robustcontraband andPlayer Bounty system. For a number of reasons, the Devs have held off on this.
It could theoretically make us happy, but has the chance of pissing off many other players. A Contraband system will make it more difficult to transport certain goods, invariably lucrative, from planet to planet. Though I would personally be overjoyed at this, and would remaster Smuggler immediately, other players will certainly balk at it. With these type of things you have to balance the desires of our profession with others. Though perhaps they haven't quite learned their lesson from focusing almost exclusively on Jedi this entire year and thereby alienating a huge swath of the playerbase, I doubt the Devs would do it again.
Also, changing the overall code in such a fundamental way would make any programmer nervous. Now add in the fact that the Devs have a "self-contained patch" mentality, in that they would rather make fixes and add content within the existing framework of the game rather than make such huge alterations. Look how long it took them to get around to the Combat Balance as an example, and the initial Smuggler Revamp proposed a few months ago. Though we were never given exact details on it (unless I missed something), Caylin's reaction to what he saw pretty much confirms this point. A self-contained "revamp" that could be churned out quick, but would provide little in the way of actual content.
This is by no means a defense of what the Devs have done, merely my perception of it. The Devs are gearing up for the CB because pretty much every player demands it. They have held off on our revamp because we are the only people demanding it. What we need to do is to come up with ideas that Non-Smugglers will find beneficial to them, and get them to battle on our side instead of pissing and moaning when the Devs brush us off for the next race track. This has been the case with changes made in EVERY profession. Not just with revamps and additions, but with nerfs as well.
Set ME up with Jolt Cola while you're at it

well from my point of view here's how it should go:
More work coding=a more involved, immersive profession and tus more of a SW experiance
More immersive professions=more long term players and better WOM advertising
more long term players and more WOM advertising=more money for SOE.
What's not to understand. I nominate that we set up a PayPal acct to keep GreenMarine supplied with Jolt Cola untill we get our revamp

Apparently they believe our revamp requires JTL, however they never did say that JTL release was our revamp...
At present we are after JTL and the combat revamp. When those are done, we get attention. That's as much as I know.
Now WHERE have i heard that before

Í just hope they will listen to the players this time around unlike with the Jedi revamp where they left the top 5 issues of the Jedi populations untouched and implemented things they thought Jedi would need. I hope that the same doesn't happen to the smuggler revamp.
By the way, there are some nice space-specific suggestions for the smuggler profession in the following thread:
