Well... that was the entire point of the thread... that Smugglers in armor just doesn't look right, so it would be cool to have a layer of protection that goes under your clothes where nobody can see it. Sure a real Star Wars Smuggler probably wouldn't wear armor, but this is still a Roleplaying Game where we have hitpoint so things armor needs to be considered no matter what your profession (which is a fault in all RPG's but then again so is the whole hitpoint system to begin with, problem is that nothing else is good enough to replace these systems).

So I thought "what kind of armor would a Smuggler wear if he HAD to be protected?" and the obvious answer to me was a concealable armor. I agree with you that armor isn't very Smuggler-esque, but, again, that was the point of the thread to begin with

As a smuggler who PvPs quite a bit I have to say that while a smuggler specific armor might be cool I don't think it's something we need to be asking for. I think of all the EU smugglers I have read about. None of them went around w/o armor (Solo, Lando, Karrde, etc).

Yes, but in the EU or even in the movies, were a third of the people wearing head-to-toe armor everywhere they went (Not including stormtroopers obviously )? And were the majority of people wearing head-to-toe armor every time they got in a fight (making sure to get buffed first of course)? No, of course not, but that's the point: if you've got to wear armor to compete then we might as well have armor that suits us as Smugglers.

Sheilds are the best option for you then. A good Armorsmith can get them up to 40-60%, and with *no* encumberance, they're very usefull. Add to the fact that noone can tell its equiped, all you really need to do is keep a crate of them on you.

Only downside I have to mention is that I've rarely seen them actually block damage on me. Might just be my luck, I dunno.

Yes, but is it something ghat should have artist/dev time devoted to it in the near future? I think not

I never said it should; I'm just throwin' out ideas here.

I personally still like the idea i pitched several months ago about PROFESSION-Specific Armor.

Now somebody can't dabble and pick up a novice profession just to get it. It'd have to be in say a 4th box of some tree for whatever profession.

But they'd all have + and - attributes.

Like Rifleman would have light Guile-style armor, that hid them well, but was weak protection. Etc.

Ilike the concept but, it seems too based on how armor is nowand will be usable by too few (MSmugglers) to warrant a prebalance change.Armors are likely to top out at around 60% after the balance so, 40% no encumbrance could be too good. It could just be a bottom graphic layerand replace skin tone on the covered areas to ease the art requirement or share what the PSGs use(nothing) on your character with a bodysuit icon in inventory.

In a perfect world there wouldn't be composite, and every profession would have their own armor that matched the classes combat role/character/ethos etc.

Rangers could have ghillie suits, TKAs could have ninjarobes (heh, when was the last time you a TKM *without* composite?), the smugglers could have their hidden armor, and commandos could have Rambo head-bands. It'd be great.

Well I chose to say it should be a Master Smuggler item based on two things:
1. Mandalorian armor is for Master Bounty Hunters and Master.... something elses. So I figured I would just follow suit.
2. The current outrage many are expressing over Jedi and BH's using Feign Death. I didn't want to give anybody something new to gripe about by making it too easy to get the ability to wear the armor.

Mandalorian Armor is for Master Bounty Hunters, Master Commandos, Master Rangers, and(get this) Master Squad Leaders. You think they woulda made Squad Leader more usefull first...
