Thread: New Armor in CU can you say, cha-ching?!?!

"Rather than reducing both drain and regeneration stats, it will now only reduce the relevant drain stat. We have also added four new hindrance types that will be mitigated by various profession skills. These hindrances will not be able to be altered during the crafting process and will remain a fixed value on the armor to maintain an overall balance. This will enable us to envision what level of armor we see everyone wearing at a specific stage of their advancement. A player will take full set armor hindrances for wearing any piece of armor of a particular type and the highest hindrance stat will take precedence. We wanted to ensure people do not try and beat the system by mixing and matching high and low hindrance items, hence why we added the rule about the highest hindrance value determining your overall hindrance level. Encumbrance to the drain stat however will remain cumulative for the total amount of pieces you actually wear. "
It sounds as if they are reworking the hinderances on the armor however if I understand the above there will still be hinderances based on armor, profession and level of profession. I think what they are trying to say above is that someone who is a novice will not be able to wear a full set of comp armor. Also no mixing and matching per se as you will take the highest level stat hinderance of the full set of whatever type your wearing even if you are wearing only one piece. Not sure if I like that last bit as my Smuggler only wears partial armor anyway, this means I will take the highest level stat hinderance for the full set even though I am wearing part of it. They also don't make it clear if thats per piece, or overall. I guess we'll find out more specifics during the beta.

Assault Armor- Great up close, exceptional in pure melee combat, drawn-out fights, close-quarters, and against grenades. Bad for pure ranged combat, and against Snipers.

Personally, I dont think faction farmers are as prevalent as you say, even if they are, Im still getting a fair amount of faction deals on chimaera, another thing to think is that people searching for faction might not want to wait untill they find someone spamming it for sale, so they only have one other option - searching for one of us. Or They willlook on the trade forums for someone to sell them some. This is already going on on Shadowfire. I have seen it since about a week after JTL. I have not had a singel faction sale since then. If a person that is not a smuggler is selling faction you can bet they are farming large amounts of it. They always get 100% profit on their sales since they are not buying.
Also, What you neglect to remember is all of this is post combat revamp, so hopefully some of our "problems" are going to get addresed, if not then but soon after. What combat skills do we have as smuggler? 2 special attacks that are decent and Feign and other than that nothing. I am not a smuggler for the combat skills and I really don't think that many people are unless it is for FD.
Just in case: Note to Wes -make sure theprice we have to pay for fp on the list along with our other fp trading issues, we can't let the "norms" undercut us on things like this, it would end up just another smuggler "skill" that others could do better than us This is going on right now. Anyone can sell it but we are the only ones that can buy. What good does it do us to buy it and then be forced to sell it at a higher price than anyone else to just break even? Just about the only thing I see that they could do to help us here it to make delegate a smuggler only skill.
If all else fails, we end up raising our armour slicing prices... Mwahahaha

Probably not gonna happen, but an idea would have been to only allow same-faction smugglers to slice the faction armor. Meaning, if an Imperial smuggler slices Imperial armor, its not considered illegal, but rather an authorized modification by a qualified Imperial agent. All other sliced armor would be illegal, and overt rebs in armor would be attacked on sight by Imperial npcs anyway. As it is, though, I cant see them allowing us to "illegally" slice ST armor.
this had better NOT get through... Imperials already have a benefit when it comes to sliced parts. and when u are asking for an even greater advantage, i am appalled... be happy u won't get turned overt, but get a slap on thw wrist as it is right now! not that i'll EVER turn imp, but i can imagine some players turning imp to protect themselves from the crackdown(if it becomes much harsher...)
idea: let master smuggers reduce the added visibility of the slices on any sliced item. they have MASTERED the art of slicing. since it's illegal, they will also be very adapt at hiding their alterations...

Bad luck, I can only speak for myself and my server, but im still selling. Theres lots of reasons someone would go to a smuggler over a farmer. At present, they can sell the fp cheap sure (though most dont, mainly because they know the going rate is around 120cpp and they can get that for it), but the amount we can get is effectivley limitless (they will always be limited by the amount they have farmed), and theres the convenience (we can be searched for in game)
You might also like to note that not every single player in the game reads the forums, SOE have told us this countless times. We are just very vocal.
/agree not every player does read the forums but you can bet that 99.9% of the AS do and that is the ones that you have to take into account. Not the everyday person.

Congrats for totally missing the point of that. The combat revamp is going to change more things than combat. Smuggler will be getting fixes during it, and straight after, along with non combat classes. Also recognise that FP is a reward for combat.
I did not miss this point in any way. I understood exactly what you mean. Let me make myself clearer since you missed mine. Read this thread about the great changes coming to smuggler .http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=in_concept&message.id=899&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 this is the link to the revamp thread that was started by TH on 1-22-2004 so I don't think we can really expect them to pay much attention to us right now with the CU or anything else going on since we were a main concern then and have been totally neglected every since. Mayberwhen they get everything else fixed they will help us but I am not holding my breath waiting on it.

Or, i mean, maybe this is so leftfield it totally missed you... Dropping the price we buy fp for, to be in line with the current economy, or even FIXING faction earning in space so it needs the same amount of time to farm as on the ground, "balancing" it, if you will
/agree the prices we buy at needs to be cut but that will only help a little. If you buy at all you can not compete with someone who gets large amounts for "free". If you can sell at 50 and make a profit they can sell at 1 and make a profit and with the solo group nerf I honestly think this will be one of the ways that large sums of money can be made by non crafting professions
If all else fails, we end up raising our armour slicing prices... Mwahahaha

Not trying to flame you but this is how it is on Shadowfire now and I see it going on game wide as soon as this armor is released with this being the stipulation to get it.
I'm as cynical as the next smuggler, but sometimes a bit of optimism doesnt hurt. I'm going to say it again, The armour, the possible faction selling... Its all POST COMBAT REVAMP, if you are ignorant to believe its only going to change combat and not have a huge knock-on effect on EVERYTHING ELSE, then by all means, bury your head in the sand.
Best case situation: We sell more faction, and get to slice loads of new suits of armour.
Worst Case situation: We get to slice loads of new sets of armour, and raise our prices to cash in on the rush, just like everyone does when something new is introduced to the game. After all, we are rogues, scoundrels, mercenaries, and opportunists.
(Personally, I don't believe any rumour that says we won't be able to slice the faction armour. the keyword here guys is BALANCE, if they can't be sliced, they wouldn't be balanced with non faction armour, and again noone would wear them, of course, alternatively they could remove armour slicing all together... shudder... see, told you I was as cynical as the rest of us.)
I am glad that a few of us still have some optimism left but I have went through everything from selling faction all day and muon at disgusting prices per crate to not being able to sell it for 3k per crate and the last one not being able to auto pull tools. I have given up any hope that this profession will get fixed any time in the near future. If you will look at the Arch boards and follow the discussion about the Maint and decayon buildings you can see from this that a few people complaining about a game dynamic can not only get it changed but can nerf an entire profession. I guess I am getting more of my attitude from the combination of this and that together. I am seeing my professions get changed/destroyed.
/kowtow Mentski
keep the optimism because someone needs to. I am entirely to cynical to think we can get any help at this point.
