Darter,

My impression is that the CURB is going to change the way doc buffs, food and spices work so I'll reserve my comments on the effectivity of spice till after CURB details are in.

Oh I agree with you, but I was just talking hypothetically. When Doc buffs surpassed the benefits of spice by a power of 6, a duration of 18, and an availability of...well, I'm not sure there's a number for that...Smugglers were backseated to Docs.

AFTER the CU/RB, I was saying spice should be the greatest reward, but with the greatest penalty, followed by Chef food, followed by buffs, if anything like that exists after that publish. After all, Docs have other purposes beyond buffing and rez-botting.

I'm not sure where I read the post, but I remember reading TH going on about the changes to buffs in the CU, and he was saying exactly what you suggest. Spice has the worst penalty in terms of side effects and duration so should be the most powerful buff in the game.

I assume this means they will be revamping the effect of spices as part of the CU (or maybe with the smuggler changes that are talking about), as well as reducing the power of doc buffs. If they made doc buffs less powerful than the current spices, that would be too much of a reduction to the docs abilities in my opinion, so they would need to beef up the effect of spices as well.

I would still dearly, dearly love to see spice made an optional additive, ie the special ingredient in buff packs, rez packs, militray hardware, starship engines, or whatever.

Make it part of an item, rather than the item itself, that way the only players affected by making it utterly illegal are those in the trade - the miners, the couriers and the buyers.

As for smuggling vs crafting of spice?

I'll take smuggling any day of the week.

I think the "looting" of spice is a cool idea. I don't really sell spice, but I do like to have some around so once in a blue moon the old food factory gets deployed.

Getting spice in this fashion will be more smuggler-like. One of the most fun jobs I had was a Bounty Hunter-- you felt like you were actually doing a Star Wars-y job as opposed to blowing up Duri lairs. I think these proposed Smuggler missions will offer a lot more pleasure to our profession-- making credits in SWG is essential, and it's cool when it's actually FUN.

The real question is what would happen withmy "abandoned warehouse" full of existing spice? Should I keep it stockpiled or go on a huge spice bender?

I've been wondering about this, too. Personally, I'd favor doing away with all pre-revamp spice, or making it somehow inferior to the new, smuggled variety; I don't want the spice market mucked up by the limitless quantities of dirt-cheap stuff we can crank out of a factory with almost zero effort.

I know some people probably have a fair amount of money invested in their spice supply, but to convert all this stuff to the same type and quality as that which we'll only be able to acquire in limited doses would undermine a significant portion of the benefits of our revamp.

I like it. I hardly ever craft spice, almost never sell it, even more infrequently use it. Smuggling it and getting to take some off the top to sell or use makes the whole idea of spice make sence. It makes the entire profession make sence. I am really excited about all of these proposed changes. A great time to be a Smuggler.

I'd find this acceptable- I have about 60 crates of muon and another 60 of pixie in stock right now, with the resources to make loads more and harvesters active getting more resources, but I would not mind losing the crates of spices (and selling the resources) when the new system hits. Otherwise the market will be flooded with pre-revamp for ages.

Then again, if them revamp spices at the same time the old ones could just be worthless as it is not as good as the new ones. I think this is what is most likely to happen, I remember when the chef revamp hit. Crates of food I had in my house did not change into the new version, remaining as pre-revamp foods. People who have stockpiles could continue to sell the old spices (but not make more), but their stock would not be as good as the spices obtained under the new system.

I think you will find that the majority of the posters in this forum agree with this change. See Wes' sticky regarding the poll he ran for this very thing. Most of us don't want to craft it.

I'd also like to take this oppurtunity to formally apologize to those smugglers who were against this idea. If the change happens as it is laid out, many of us will be happy, and I hope that the rest of you wil laccpet the change and continue contributing your opinions on this forum.
