Thread: My ideas for spices

These sound awesome. I think it kinda sucks that spices at the current moment are just foods that don't take up any food-bar and make you puke afterwards. It's like eating bad shellfish.

Something this complex could confuse players, though -- and confusion usually means they won't buy. I love the ideas, don't get me wrong. I'd think maybe, instead of the player mixing these 'cocktails', the smugglers themselves could make 'em up. That gives us a wide range (just like chefs) of products to sell, and when a player examines the drugs, it'd tell 'em what they do, just like foods do. If players mix drugs together, it could be good and bad. Good, because if they totally fubar it up, they'll have to come back and buy more. Bad, because if they totally fubar it up, they might just get mad and go buy food. =P Allowing the smugglers to make the cocktails will allow us to have a nice, wide variety of things to sell, we can custom make spiffy drug mixes for people, etc etc. Now THAT sounds like my cup of tea. =D

To make a long story short -- we need more, spiffier stuff. I've never complained about not having anything to smuggle, but I'd really like it if what we've got was a bit nicer. I've always said that smugglers have the best sense of humor of anyone in game. We have to. =D

I reall like the ideas you've presented!

I especially hope the idea for cocktails gets thrown in the reveamp. Id love to see people experiment with spice to find an "uber template of Spices"

Thanks for sharing this.

Thanx for the support guys, glad to see so many like these ideas.

As for the drug kits. Seeing as anybody can use them to make cocktails and such there is no reason enterprising smugglers couldnt make kits to sell. Another idea would be to make spice mixing a skill that smugglers get allong with spices.

some great ideas here, but I do have one point of contention, and that is having a specific spice only work on one of the 9 ham bars. I think that would severely limit its role and keep it from becoming mainstream. For something that has serious consequences (some major downtime), it needs to have some serious benefits. Perhaps 2-3 of 9 bars and a state effect.. Like enhanced action, quickness with hieghtened accuracy, or higher strength and constitution with a + damage mod. There needs to be something to distinguish it from chef foods and make it desirable in a new and interesting way.

Thanx for the support guys this is awesome, really.

On the point of the spices affectiing only one ham bar of the nine. The reason I put it like that was because with drug kits you would be able to mix spices into cocktails this would provide benefit to multiple ham bars and would make the spices more versatile than even in the current system. The added risk would be the possibility of ill effects such as OD, poisoning or psychotic episode. The risk for minor mixing is next to nil .. but it does get rather risky when making an all9 ham bar spice cocktail.

The other benefit of this system is that there will be at least 9 desirable spices as opposed to the current 2. Then with the addition of new spices that affect stuff other than the ham bars the number of useful spices increases. The ability to weaken or concentrate your dosage also is a huge benefit... If your low on cash you can cut your drug to make it last longer albiet with a weaker effect. Or power users can concentrate dosage to give en even higher boost. Smugglers can also premake kits to sell for those who don't have the time or the knowledge to do so themselves. I think limiting spices to affecting one particular thing at a time is a great compromise to allowing people to mix and match spices.

Please guys keep the replies coming this is great.

There are some awesome ideas here, everyone has some very good input. I agree that spices should be the uber modifier and carry the highest consequences for it's use. In regards to the spices hitting one HAM or several, I'd like to see some spices hit more than one HAM, but perhaps it should have less power than the spices that hit only one HAM.

Hope the Dev's are takin' notes on this one.

I like these ideas, except i don't think Smugglers should be experimenting on any of their products. We're not crafters and I'd rather see us go farther away from the resource gathering/experimentation route if possible.

Man this is groovy. Usually people have more serious issues with my radical ideas. I am so glad to see most of the issues with these ideas are just minor details.

I could see premixed lesser spices still being available that are not subject to the OD rules and that are not mixable and affect more than one ham bar.

To be honest I don't think smugglers should have anything to do with alot of whats in thier profession. I have major issues with slicing. (This game doesnt have really any true slicing unless you count the terminal slicing which is marginal at best and don't even get me started ont he weapon/armor issue thats not even slicing its juryrigging/tinkering.) However since the devs are bound and determined to have smugglers actually make the spices they might as well be able to craft them properly which means including experimentation.

Keep the replies coming this rocks.

Sounds nifty. I love the psychotic episode thing, that'd be pretty great to see!
