On reflection, maybe I'm trying to solve the problem the wrong way.

It all comes down to cost per slice - because the economy is flooded with cash, even 10K a slice is a pittance to pay for permanent increases in an item's strength. 10k is what - 1 maybe 2 missions?

If we priced at the same sort of scale as Docs wouldn't we be charging 1k per % increase? (I can hear the howls of pain even now)

Ps

Is it just me or is anyone else really nervous about Caylin's post?

We're gonna need a bigger hint than that now... you can't say that and not give us a hint... it's like luring us into the city with a promise of sweet sweet crack, and then just ditching us when we get there... =)

but, there is another neat opportunity you guys are missing if we make sliced weapons harder to move around and less convenient for the non-smuggler owner. And that is that we could actually IMPROVE slicing results. knock off the bottom 5% range in every area. Maybe even make it possible to double-slice (doing both speed and damage) at the Master level. Essentially, smugglers would be able to have stronger weapons than classes that were non-smuggler and unwilling to cope with police intervention all the time. The underworlders would get the advantage of nice hardware and the disadvantage of having to stay underground all the time. Everyone else has 5 minute starports to get them anywhere they wish to go... but their weapons aren't as nice and they have no access to spice.
It is a balanced trade off with one small hitch... figuring out how to get the genie back into the bottle. You would have to allow all currently sliced items to be either auto-ignored or give the owner a chance to 'undo' the slice when you added this change.
The really nice thing is that smugglers would not really need special weapons or special moves added to help balance us out more, as we would have the best of both worlds.. sliced gear and access to the 'public' travel system.

You DO know that if there are 3 nerfs and 7 'good' things the nerfs will happen FIRST and then MAYBE the good stuff at some later date.

Sorry, I'm against the idea of randomly breaking someones kryate weapon...or even decreasing it's stats. It's bad enough that the results are random, even at master.

I'm tempted to post ideas that went around, oh about 9 months ago, that relate to this but then everything on the smuggler forum goes 'round and 'round and nothing ever comes of it. So, I'll not waste my virtual breath.

Er, moving away from my attempts at humour and genuine frustration due to impatience over a download, come the smuggler revamp, I would like to see slicing for others far less common. I'm hoping post SR we'll be making our money by smuggling spice to people and a range of other illegal things, ranging from resources to weapons. Until that time, short of whatever Caylin is reffering to with the changes coming in the combat revamp, I don't want to see any changes to slicing (bar the darn auto pulling bug), because we simply don't have anything to replace it with yet.

Ideally if slicing was clamped down on, the business we lost in slicing would be made up in actual smuggling. The top end PvPers and hardcore players would still want their sliced items to give themselves and edge. They would also want to avoid any negative penalties for getting caught. I'm all for making slicing and spices highly illegal like they should be.

Just waiting for those documents to be released. Then Caylin can actually say what on his mind instead of beating around the bush.
