SLANDER !!!
\Slan"der\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Slandered; p. pr. & vb. n. Slandering.] 1. To defame; to injure by maliciously uttering a false report; to tarnish or impair the reputation of by false tales maliciously told or propagated; to calumniate.
SkyWalker v. Yoda
The Empire, is the highest court in the known galaxy; that is, it has ultimate judicial authority within the Empire to interpret and decide questions of galaxtic law. It is head of the judicial branch of the Empire Government.
SkyWalker v. Yoda (376 B.T. 1254.2964) case which established the definition of actual malice, Actual malice in galactic law is defined as "knowledge that the information was false" or that it was published "with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not."
While the details of this case have been secured by Lord Vader himself, this much is known, The plaintif a young Anakin Skywalker did file suit claiming that derogatory remarks made by the defendant had caused him to recieve sub-standard training in an "undisclosed" profession. Yoda was reported to settle out of court for 67,500,000 galactic credits.
Editors Note
Yoda eventually filed for chapter 2196 (Galactic Bankruptcy) see case. 14365.236544.90987c. Apparently this "Undisclosed" profession paid quite well!

Ah, but you forget Yoda was neither a public figure nor a public official therefore the actual malice standard should not apply.
Instead, just negligently making a false statement should suffice to sustain a prima facie case of defamation (libel in this instance). Damages shall be presumed.
In any event, truth is an absolute defense

I didn't even think of talking to Jawas! Thats a shame!
But it opens up a whole new world of easily-implementable smuggler possibilities for me, that is, having Smugglers talk to creatures that no one else can (which was obviously mentioned in the first post)!! My mind is swirling after reading this, and I think i'm going to go to sleep thinking nice dreams about this...only to wake up disappointed.

In the words of J. Jonah Jameson, Uncle Screwtape,
"IT IS NOT SLANDER! When you print it it's libel."

I also ventured out into the hot Tatooine sun hoping for something Smugglerish only to be slapped down with out love like the Smuggler that I am.
Hmmm what are the top5 things that would have been Smugglerish Loot kits?
- A Hookah (No Casino shouldbe without one)
- An autographed painting of Han Solo and Chewy (sell outs!)
- A globe of Tatooine (So you can plan how you are going to smuggle all your stuff in... oh wait)
- A model of a YT-1300 on a stand (So we can all be constantly reminded of the cool stuff to come)
- A big crate labeled "NO ILLEGAL SPICE IN HERE" that people could look at when they /open you in a cantina
Ahh the possibilities are endless
