Best, or easiest, way to smuggle items out of some organization is to be apart of said organization.....

Although I'm not an imperial officer/soldier myself, then I can easily see how they are able to be smugglers at the same time. They are the corrupt lawenforcer/officer/private of a government that has imposed certain laws. Only thing I find strange is that they can get away with anything... just as long as they are of high enough rank. Even members of governement has at times been forced to leave their positions and even been procecuted for doing illegal things.

In a dictatorship or any form of government that seeks to stay in power, the laws play the most important part. Without the laws, the powerbase would crumble under the government. I agree that a person in service of the empire would be able to get away with more, but to be completely immune is probably too much.

Smuggler AND imperial?!? it just needs abit of thought.

in my case i only became a smuggler AFTER i made colonel, when i was asked by lord vader himself to infiltrate the smuggler community to determine support for this so called 'rebel alliance'

Well, there are 2 parts of the explanation for myself being an imperial colonel.

First one is RP related :

Kiorys is a bothan whose clan got banned from Bothawui after having heard some strange things about a supposed list in reation with Caamas and its annihilation. So Kiorys is not really linked to Bothawui's United Clans, and he uses the Empire as an instrument to get the planet rid of those inapt leaders. Playing manipulation games with Lord Vader is not a small game, and he has to give a lotto gain a bit. On the other hand, Vader certainly knows about the true ambition of Kiorys, and it may perfectly suit Him.

Second reason is content related :

After 5 months being a neutral player, after not being able to do anything in the game, after not being able to have fun with my friends, i decided that since we could have wookies and mon calamaris imperial colonels, why wouldn't a bothan be one? In order to experience the game in a larger way, i had to get factionned, so i reached my friends on the imperial army.

without laws and regulations there'd be nothing to smuggle... it's only natural as a smuggler to support the folks who want tighter control of things. And the Skywalkers a bunch of whiny poo sticks. Atleast thats how I see it.

Well, thanks to help from Gomi last night, I moved back to the Empire and will be switching to a new guild tonight. Despite my previous post here, I really like some of the people's explanations on why they would be an Imperial Smuggler.

In ever war there where officers who would steal army supplies and sell them on the black market for money. Sad but true, there have always been smugglers lol
