Like I said when this new system came out, "It is just ugly stupid to have Slicing Tools as Loot."
And yes, I no longer slice for anyone but my MWS alt, and just don't have the time to go after Tool Loot...So doing alot of space stuff cause of it.
In short I HATE the new loot drop system, totally freaking HATE it.

i was also fond of the old system. this game is good on the surface, but when you start getting higher up in the professions it seems that the game just falls flat. i wanted a more complicated mini game. i wanted to be able to choose the slice yes, but why not make it more dependant upon skill of the player then the skill of the dice?
i remember a game that i played way back, mid 80's i would say, i dont remember what it was called, i just remember the game. you were a robot and to get out of the maze or ship or whatever you had to roll around and "hack" other droids so you could get thier weapons, keys and defenses. when you decided to hack a droid it would give you a circuit diagram with wires and relays and stuff. basically it had leads that you had to send a signal through before you were blocked at the other side. if i sent my "red" signal on the right wires the lead at the other end would then turn red and stop the droid from using that lead. sometimes if there were the right "thingies" in the circuits you could get 2 or 3 leads to turn red. sometimes you would hit a dead end. it took skill and cunning to take over the droids. and more over i had to "play" to do it. i imagine what i want slicing to be like is alittle "tetris game" in there. something for me to do. something to challenge my brain.
the current slicing system should be changed back, or be reworked to be more fun. i dont have the money or desire to spend my time buying or hunting loot to be able to do what my profession should do by default.
so much for a smuggler revamp, maybe they should just rename us. useless would be my first suggestion.

I've only sliced for a customer twice since the CU. What does that tell you?
It's just not a viable way for me to make money. At least.. well, maybe I'm lazy. /shrug
And I DID like the randomness before... but I DO like the options for customization now. Options with randomness would be cool... with sliding results based on skill level. But of course, that's never going to happen now that slicing development is essentially 'done'.

Personally I just get no satisfaction at all from doing that... so I no longer do it. Simple as that.
That sums up my feelings on the two systems pretty well.
I used to feel like I performed a service... my character had an ability that other players wanted and I had the tools in my hand to provide them with that service.
Now, I don't even bother to offer the service (Mostly because I do not enjoy loot hunting/camping although even if I did I wouldn't want that inventory mess)... all we do now is put the pieces of a pretty simple puzzle together.
I like to have the tools of the trade in my own possesion before I start up business with a client... I can't stand not having what I need in order to perform master-level quality service.
This new system completely took away the slicing aspect of my gaming session. :/

I think the loot idea was created so that not EVERYONE would have top-tier slices. The mistake was on what CREATURES they put the loot on (Krayts with delicate trigger assemblies?). I think putting the loot on more reasonable creatures, but with lower drop rates would be a better solution than what they did.
But now, with BH loot providing components, given the IMMENSE number of BH's there are, they'll have the same problem--EVERYONE will have slices, and so, in-effect, NO ONE will.
I think that making slices rarer is a good idea. but the answer is NEVER "loot." Because over a long enough timeline, the loot WILL be found. Or people will complain until it's more common. The answer is RISK.
Make slices involve a risk. Someone hands a Master Smuggler their prized Krayt DL44XT or Featherweight. They realize "I COULD get 8% more damage if it goes right, giving me that last little edge I need!" But they also know "if they fail... well, I could lose a few points of damage instead"
I think that slicing and Weaponsmithing need to be balanced together, though (powerups are okay, since they decay. but I think ADKs were the worst thing to ever enter the galaxy economy). Between the commonality of slicing loot AND the stats possible with the new BH loot WS components, it's just a question of "which stat do I max first?" In that kind of system, eventually everyone will have the same weapons. There should be better checks and balances. You shouldn't be able to cap all three stats EVER. EVER. EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER. NO, NEVER.
If you cap one stat at 100% of the cap, the cap for the next stat should lower to 85% of what it normally is. That should leave the last stat capping at 60% of the normal cap. MAKE PEOPLE CHOOSE. Some might believe speed to be paramount, others damage, and others SAC. Make people choose, and you'll force variety and strategy into the game. Slicing, then, adds just a LITTLE bit of an edge, not some uber bonus that is nearly REQUIRED because everyone ELSE will have it. Slices should be allowed to exceed a cap by TOPS 5%. Just an edge, a win-by-a-nose situation.

why on earth should loot like slicing components be on CREATURES. they should be only on NPCs.i dont care about how much risk should be involved, that is not the point, how the heck do krayts build slicing components to drop as loot?
a much bigger problem for me is the fact that the fun of slicing is gone. instead of fixing it they not only broke it, afterwards they took it and flushed it down the toilet.
bring back the original slicing with the ability to choose the slice and make this profession mean something again.
oh and then add the ability to smuggle things. oh and then fix spices, oh and could we get a better set of abilities for underworld? oh and dirty fighting could use some melee moves.
that about does it...
