Sorry, Cyrus, my bad. The poem was a Rudyard Kipling poem. Wes in a previous thread said he was a fan of Kipling and that is why the whole thing was for him.

Thats my advice when arguing with an NCO actually any officer unless you know you are in the right. I have a buddy who faced off against 3 colonels in an unpronounceable middle eastern country because he knew he was right. The next day they sort of apologized to him. The full bird said "Son, it takes balls to stand up to 3 Colonels when one of them is saying you might have commited treason. I'll be g*****ed if I'm going to be put in that situation again, and thats a fact airman. Let's go get some chow." That's what a colonels apology looks like anyway. Of course I have heard of other incidents involving Lt's upbraiding Sgt's in front of the men, and then the First Sgt politely asked the Lt to step outside where he did some explaining. The Lt ended up getting transferred to the worst base in North America (North Dakota), and was dang lucky to get that. 2nd Lt's...ah what would the armed forces do for amusement without them?

Never argue with a SGT when he's right. When he's wrong and won't admit it, kick his butt. I never waited for the First Sergeant to cuss out the LT's...I always did it first. Same thing with COLs and Sergeants Major. An old SGM told me I'd never make Master Sergeant because I was a "renegade." "Sarge, remember all those LTs and SGTs you used to cuss out when you were a private because they were dumasses? Well, they are still dumasses but now they are COLs and SGMs and they sit on your promotion boards." I didn't get promoted to MSG until Star Wars Galaxies.

Here is another partial quote from a Kipling poem:

"The Backbone of the Army is the Non-commissioned man!"

You are the lame one. And an idiot and illiterate. Kipling is still read in armies all over the world. His poems told it like it was...and often still is. And teamwork is still viable in RPG's as it is in RL. So dude, the verdict is in. Get your lame ass out of the thread.

He wasn't an NCO. He was an airman. Thats Air Force speak for Private (in this case it would be comparable to PFC). If you knew the situation, and the guy, it would make sense. Believe whatever you like. In the military your teammates are your life. If one of us messes up, we all suffer. My post was meant to amuse, but the stories are from a guy who I would trust with my life or naked wife. Since he actually spent some time, very recently getting shot at so I could sit here and play video games, eat poptarts, and make fun of Japanese tentacle porn, I'm not going to call him a liar.

Every noncom has a speech about teamwork. Hell I have more respect for the 1st Seargent than I do for almost any other officer. Because they are the guys that will bail you out of jail, make sure your wife and kids get taken care of while your in Iraq, and keep the people off your ass that stop you from doing your job. Of course they are also the guys that beat your ass when it needs it, and keeps it from going on paper if you are a decent guy.

Kipling is awesome.

Friendly fire sucks though bro.

Are you in the military? Yeah sometimes you get a good 1SGT. Sometimes. Usualy not.As for your friend who took on 3 Colonels. I don't know how that happend since every Colonel would be in a differnt chain of command. Unless 1 was a O5 and the other was a O6. But thats still only two. Beyond that your friend is a PFC which means it's a total load of crap. I'm glad he did serve in iraq. Though i'm sure he works on an airfield if he's an airman so he's not getting shot at. Probaly motared.(BTW all arguments aside do not post where he is or what he is doing on here.) I'm in the military. I am an NCO. And i can tell aBull crap story when i see it. As for our kipling fan I wasmaking fun of the fact he isgiving a standard retired army senior NCO speech to a bunch of 13-17 year old players. I just don't like to hear crap like that.
As for your quote, maybe kipling did tell it like it was. In the 1800's. But if you want someone who tells it like it really is, you should read kurt vonegut.

I resent that...I met my hubby when he was transfered to yes my home state of ND. Let me give you the two quotes people use up there and then tell you the real story.

"why not Minot?" "freezin's the reason" (Ok so in the winter we do get -80 windchill..cant hack it, well then maybe you need to get tougher )

"There's a pretty girl behind every tree." (When you get off the plane all you see if flat land and maybe 10 trees, we have mostly wheat and sunflower fields)

I cant speak for Grand Forks base...but Minot although cold and 13 miles from town isnt so bad. At least there you get a house with a nice yard and the schools are on base. Unlike that crap base in Denver, spent 4 years in a apartment because building a golf course was more important then base housing. Either way most people who were stationed in Minot will tell you besides the weather it wasnt that bad. After all you can go 100 miles and be in Canada and drink at 18 (airmen love that). And the people there are the nicest you will ever meet, heck in the winter we have to leave our cars running so they dont die and no one steals it. I would much rather be there then at Minots sister base in LA (houses on base there have mold and other nasty things, and crime is horrible).

I salute you then. Thank you for being in the armed forces.

I know better than relate whens and where's lol. Even if I knew them, the last thing I want is someone wearing body armor knocking on my door. Thanks for the advice though, it could save someone from saying something dumb...lol

The funny end to the story that you don't believe is that they roasted him the day he came back to the states and at the roast presented him with courtmartial papers for treason signed by Col. I.M. Dumbass (seriously that's what the bird wrote!) all the other O's signed with stupid names too. He's supposed to bring them with him next time he comes into town. I cant wait to see him lol. I will PM you if the documents exist I guess, and nail the story down better.

As for Minot, I understand that they do a lot to keep the kids on the base just like the ones in south texas. Since another country where the laws are way different is 15 minutes away...might as well keep them from driving. I was told the best thing about Minot was the war games, although that guy for sure told some BS stories.

coming from a USMC NCO that was in Iraq, i can attest to several instances where lower ranks stand up to higher ranks.

it is respected in a combat situation. I personally had a situation where as a SGT i had to tell a major "that's not a good idea sir" when his stateside job was JAG and he was riding with a grunt unit.

also in a combat situation, it was not uncommon to see several high ranking officers together (in the rear of course, lol) so 3 COL in the same vicinity is not uncommon.
