Zandergreef,

Just PMed you. Yes, you can have all my stuff. Seeing as how we're both on Kettemoor, and I'll have no further use for it, you're welcome to whatever I've got. I'd rather it help SOMEONE enjoy the game, even if I won't be. My subscription's up on the 21st though, so better be snappy about it before all the gear goes "poof".

Got it. Check your PMs. I'll try to look for you tonight. Bring a BUNCH of storage with you. I'm broke, by the way, so I can't go to any other planets (unless you want to bank tip me or something so I can go to where your house is).

A Smuggler's Life
The devs need to watch star wars again. Luke was a whiny baby with the hots for his own sister. Solo was the rockin smuggler with the blaster, the chick, (a personality) and a wookie.

Take care man.

Like you, I'm pretty....well...I won't say what with SOE. We wasted a lot of time and constructive energy trying to make the profession smuggler. All the discussion, and the fights with other correspondents was a moot point the whole time.

Honestly, I don't think they even THOUGHT about it until the revamp and we started proposing stuff. I think they were hoping we wouldn't notice, or could be held off until they had a solution, and then forgot about us. I really don't believe we were intentionally led on for more than a month or two. I really believe that they just thought they'd cross that bridge when they got here, and then they got here and we still wanted player smuggling.

FYI, Zandergreef, I may not be able to make it tonight, but PM me some time that we could meet up tomorrow if possible. Morning won't work (I have to go to work).

Such a nice speech, but you blame the wrong company. Before you leave, please realise that SOE is the host for Star Wars Galaxies. Think of SWG as a paracite. SOE does nothing for Lucas except give it server space. The devs, hired by Lucas, paid by Lucas, on the Lucas Arts payrole. Lucas pays SOE for server space. The only thing you can blame SOE for is the server crashes during the first day of live. Everything else is Lucas' fault.

I don't think so. I suspect that the arrangement works such that LucasArts licenses the use of the Star Wars trademark and copyrighted materials, grants SOE a limited license to produce a derivative work based on the films, and generally assumes an oversight role in making sure that SOE doesn't tarnish the franchise by, say, bringing Vulcans in or having wookiees walk around talking about the Forbidden Zone or somesuch. Aside from that, the ball's probably in SOE's court. Yes, Lucas CHOSE SOE to develop the game, and for that deserves some of the blame, but I think this is a case where the developer is generally given a free hand to design the game. LucasArts doesn't have the native talent to do a huge MMORPG, so they went to the guys they figured were the logical choice -- the developers of EverQuest -- and got them to do it. As a result, you've got Star Quest Ever Wars or whatever. (so I'm told -- I never played EverQuest) Not really a Star Wars game, more like an EverQuest expansion pack with Star Wars graphics and sounds. I do blame LucasArts for not pulling the plug on this crap, but then again, they're making money so why kill the goose who lays the golden egg, even if the people BUYING the egg keep complaining that it's iron pyrite.

No longer holding out hope, SWG will never be the game we fought so hard for, that we believed so much in. Farewell friends.

Much as I hate to say it, I'm not too far behind Solo...for pretty much the same reasons.

My current account expires in August...so, after that, I'm more than likely gone...
