On a related note... my account no longer shows ROTW as being preordered? wth? ironic thing is i still have my mining laser, and my cybernetics, and my varactyl. I'm concerned if i reorder it i'll get charged twice... but this is puzzling.

So if this isn't remedied, or if there isn't an explanation, I'm posting a nice thorough review of ROTW. Prepare to be suprised.
Hey Tomo or Wes, any word in the C-forums as to what the actual deal with this launchpad issue is?

Does it still cost less to ride the PATH than the subway? Once they bumped the fares I thought that was kind of crazy.
i dunno about the PATH. i just know i pay almost $3000a year to ride the Long Island Railroad.
and the service SUCKS. (which is why i laugh when i see people whining about SOE... try riding the LIRR!
)
I havent been invited into the beta and, like you found out i could get to kashyyyk when chimaera went to TC5 because I had it preordered. As I mentioned in another post I cant see how you are covered by the nda if you werent accepted into the beta and you ended up seeing it. They ended up leaking their own software.

launchpad bug my @ss, they did it on purpose. They apparently F'ed up by accidentally letting the preorder folks into ROTW early. I'm guessing this was there quick-fix on that. because now that it's not preordered on the launchpad, you can't go to kashyyk.
ooh, yeahh... you got a point there...
Oh btw, since that does seem to be the case, that means I'm not bound under an nda because i did not agree to one. they just let me in.

I'd like to established that I did not agree to an NDA before travelling to kashyyk, and that this ability to travel has been revoked without explanation.
It's time. I still have no preorder listed, I'm still not in beta. and that's all she wrote. If they take a drastic measures, then /Smugglersalute to you all.
I believe the Devs were mistaken when they labelled this a Planet Expansion. Kasshyyk should not be considered a planet. If you think of it as a new planet going in, you're just going to confuse and upset yourself. Think of Kasshyyk as a Mega-Dungeon. One big giant interconnected set of dungeons.
Here are the reasons why.
1. The entire planet consists of paths, rather than open terrain like the normal worlds. most of the time the paths are pretty narrow, and you can NOT stray from the paths. There are invisible walls, much like the current planet edges, guiding you the whole way. Much like the inside of a dungeon, only with the illusion of being outside.
2. No lairs. Everything seems to be static spawns along the trails. if you kill something, it will be there again.
3. No mission terminals. There are no terminals. this goes with #2. all missions are NPC quests. No complaints here, they're enjoyable, and have fun rewards.
Now, people have also heard about the fact that ROTW features zoning. That's right, good ol EQ/EQ2 "One of the amazing new features of SWG is that it has NO zones" zoning. Smaller areas interconnected all spoking off from the central area. It's not like, you'll be walking along and suddenly have to load. you'll come up to a big wookiee gate, which you've probably seen already in screens.
These systems are actually not too bad. With the exception of the restriction to set paths thing, It all lends itself to a pretty enjoyable experience.
At this point people are probably thinking, "hm, zoning? npc quests only? this sounds an awful lot like EQ2/WoW. You are right. I am hereby coining the phrase World of Wookiecraft for this expansion. Not that this is a bad thing, entirely. It does work, and the "planet" looks GREAT because of it. But it's not what you're used to with this game, and is the opposite of what they promised from the outset of the game.
It feels a bit like a Disney-fied safari park. Also, don't see much content for non-coms so far. In fact, it would be a bad idea for a non-com to move around alone on the planet.
Don't know if they'll add them, but there aren't any preset waypoints yet, um, some areas you can't use a speeder but can use a mount, there's quests to do literally every two feet and so far theyve been much more diverse than current Live missions
I'm still getting the expansion for both my toons. I think it offers enough content for me. In fact, if anything, all it is is content.
So long as this post ezists, I'll attempt to answer any questions one might have
The system had been thought out during year (litteraly) and if I did not agree with all the choices, at least I knew all possibilities had been weighted...
Now I have the feeling that they try to attract the EQ2/WOW crowd with features that make the game look more and more like these ones, but in a SW universe.
Thing is, from a marketing and customer behaviour standpoint, it doesn't stand a chance. What those specific customers will think will be more close (if they ever notice it, which isn't even sure) : "well, swg folks just saw that our system were better, I was right to go to that game", rather than "oh, swg, a game 2 years old has adopted the same systems and inner working as my brand new MMORPG, lets try it out in case its better"... And that's without considering the fact that these guys bought their game as a whole, and not just a system (which btw you won't be able to fully duplicate, and thus, satisfy their hypothetical needs).
On another hand, what I see is a severe shift in terms of concepts from SOE guys, that current swg customers will notice. And in case those changes are too drastic, or too far from the reasons they've been keeping playing swg, then they'll just quit.
An if you thought about evoking the "SW:total experience" concept supposedly attracting crowds of new customers, this wont happen. Just look at the reviews done by magazines and websites. Those are the key trend-makers, and in their mind, SWG is already old fashionned. Don't think this expansion will make them change their mind. At most they will think that "swg folks are trying to adapt to the market, nice try".
Sincerely, I would be more concerned, if I was working at SOE about loosing current customers than attracting new ones....
Your thoughts?
(oh, and btw I have nothing against the expansion you described, I m quite sure this will be a lot of fun, just I m worried about the general direction latest policy-decisions are aiming at..)
Oh almost forgot, there are also semi-instanced dungeons, where you can choose from multiple servers. There will still be other people able to go in, and meet you there, but they will be spread out amongst three instances.
I would like to point out that I'm not going to discuss details on things like quests, there's no reason for me to do that, I'm simply dicussing the expansion itself, because I really felt people should not go into this uninformed. I know the minute i saw a an open, flat, wooded area, tried to cut across it, rather than take the set path, and couldn't I freaked. I don't want others to have the same. Because if everyone logs in, goes to Kashyyk, and runs headlong into the first "open" area they see, and get stopped dead by an invisible wall, the ensuing "WTH??!?!?" from each of those players will amplify the other players' panic, and the mob shall rule.
Or maybe I'm just crazy. But to me I see the potential for disaster amongst veterans. New players won't know this from that, it won't affect them.
And one more tidbit. I say no babies while I was there. at all. anywhere. so if those don't get added, CH will be the Smuggler of ROTW. A slew of new creatures, and no ability to tame them.
