I hope that the CU is going to be as cool as I think it could be? Especially the PvP. Thoughts?

Combat balance = great
Levels = bad
UI = sucks
Sorry but this EQ2/WOW direction really has me bummed out...Just my 2 cents

Are levels really THAT bad? I mean, I've never played EQ or WOW but they seem to be pretty popular games. In fact, it wasn't so long ago that everyone was saying their existance would kill SWG. - they have cut into SWG's market hence the reason they are moving the game in that direction, killing the originallity of SWG.
Am I missing something here?

Levels are great in a quest based system, SWG is not quest based it's skill based. In my mind the levels distroy grouping with n00bs (XP wise)kills PVP (who wants to fight someone they can see is stronger then them)and limits the type of creatures you can kill (your only lvl 5 and few if ever pop up on the terminal or spawn outside the city, for example). It takes all the mystery out of the game when you know what you can or can not attack both player and NPC wise just by looking at them, kinda dumbs down the system. As far as the UI goes the system they built originally (whats in live now) is a very user friendly intuative system, that is all gone and we get a poor mans version of EQ2 with a splash of WOW. Again this is just my opinion, I like what they have does with combat but they ruined the rest of the game in the process (dont even get me started on Doc and Entertainers).
If a light bulb burns out in your house you switch out the bulb
If live combat was a blown bulb they tore the house down and built a new one with spare parts from other homes just to fix the bulb.

I can live with everything they want to do witht he CU, BUT, I am sorely, sorely disappointed with the levels. And it's not even the levels showing up that bother me. It's the damage modifiers. If something is x levels higher than you (eg you are 10, mob is 20) it will hit you a LOT higher than a level 20 player. Not, you take more damage cause your skills are lower, it hits for like 500, before resists/armor/dodge, whereas the level 20 guy gets hit for 50, before the resists/armor/dodge. Just stupid, this isn't EQ2, also, this isn't the thread to discuss it, sorry for the hijack, I just had to agree with Yim here

Maybe we should start a thread to discuss this very issue a lil' bit as now you and Yim have me concerned. As far as the mobs go for the most part I would check their levels anyway by looking at how much HAM they had and what their resistances are.
Here I would be doing the same thing but it would be readily knowable due to the color of the con and the level number on the creatures head. Granted that is a lil' unemersive but is it that bad?
I understand what you are saying about the damage modifier though. But is this a case of looking behind the Wizard's Curtain and finding out it's just a lil' old man?
I mean, if you didn't know how the system worked- You wouldn't know how the system worked, right?
My main concern though is PvP. I'm not much of a PvP player but I could be if it was fun. Which this system seems to be leaning towards. However if the Damage mods apply to US as well as the MOBs then that would straight out SUCK.

On second thought maybe we could just keep this convo here- as long as you begin and end your posts with "may the force be with you".
