Master Smuggler
Master TK
Novice Weaponsmith
Novice Armoursmith
Business 3
Survey 4
You're a smuggler, you're useful in combat, you can make everything you need tool wise, you can place a single vendor & you have the "cover" of being a miner for a little roleplaying flavour.

Smuggler goes with whatever you *feel* like being.
It's a cop out answer, but for the most part, there's enough skill points left to do whatever else in the game floats your boat. And definitely read that Smuggler professions guide.
In my illustrious past, I've had a character, centered around Smuggler and TKM whose goal in life was to oppose the Empire, slice weapons for any Rebel to aid in the fight, and purvey spices to everyone, as well as make the lives of Stormtroopers hell.
Currently, I'm a "Survivor" Smuggler, idealogically independent, but who works for the Empire because they pay well.
(Master Smuggler, TKA 4-0-0-0, Novice Pistoleer, and 1-0-4-0 Ranger.)

The most common template is the combat smuggler triple master of Pistoleer/TKM/Smuggler. Me? I'm a Master Merchant/Master Smuggler with a couple of trees of Pistoleer. I like being a Merchant.

I added BH 0040, TK 4000 its rather nice for PVE, BH pistol skils are way cheaper than geting master pistoler and the specials are great to. Having the abilty to target to HAM pols is nice. I use the TK meditate line for the boost and healing wonds since i have no medic skils with this build.
This combo has been the most funn for me and is rather chalenging to fight with out using stims still geting used to that

Please read the stickies. For every question that is asked in the stickies, a Chupa dies. Please think of the Chupas.
Die Chupa! DIE! hehe

let's see...my current build is Master Smuggler/Master Pikeman, 3040 TK, and the 2 melee FS skills and Luck.
With me...it wasn't really a question of functionality, it was more as what I liked. I love being a smuggler....it was the first prof I mastered and never dropped it. For about 8 months after I tried different classes that I had the skill points for. My favorite of those classes were Master Pikeman. Since I am not really into PvP much it works for me.

Master Smuggler / Master Merchant and Novice Armorsmith / Weaponsmith / Pistoleer.
Seeing as I currently find combat incredibly boring, I moved from working for triple master to the more business side of things. We'll see how the combat upgrade pans out, but atm I see little point in getting too involved in combat. Personal choice.
I currently make a nice profit from supplying other Smugglers with tools, and the odd slicing contract, none of that freelance stuff

Apparently I'm the only person who has gone Master Smuggler/ Master Rifleman. Actaully, I just got the Rifleman, so I haven't had a chance to play around with it much so I can't brag about how cool it is. I have just always liked the idea of killing enemies as far away from me as possible.

Well,
I started off M Smuggler and naturally finished Pistols, then started on TK, but just for the meditation tree, then dropped to Pistols 004 and went Master Pikeman.
But, I got tired of the defences from Pike, so I went to TK, and got Master Pistols back, and then decided to drop THAT and got the Pike def tree back.
So now I'm Master Smuggler, TKM, Pike 0040, and Pistols 0043. This gives me some pretty good melee def and really good state defences, with Ranged Damage mitigation +2 from Pistoleer. I woulda gotten more Fencer, but I like using my pistols for emergencies (I often adventure with My M Doc.M Swords friend, and somethings are 100% kin/blast resist, he tanks and I SLOWLY kill it, lol)
The only temps I can't stand against are the really good melee stackers and of course dots are my bane, having no way to get rid of them during a fight.
I admit, it's not very smuggly, but kinda hard to be useful as part of a 2-3 person team in the geo caves as a pistoleer
