Seems to me that if they monitor all financial transactions and can tell if you recieved duped credits that they could simply dock your character's bank account for that number of credits. If you didnt have that much, your bank account would just go to Zero. Not sure what to do about people who recieved the credits and then bought houses, weapons, armor, etc.

BUT it is not like you can refuse it! And that seems to be the problem - receipients look as if they are getting a ban too.Could get messy.
Don't be so quick to believe people (<- good advice in general, not just for swg

I had been a bit worried since i had a good weekend selling faction and getting paided t help folks get corvette badges. I did not think any of my customers would dupe, but there where all high volume merchants so there was a risk they had been paid in bad credits and had then paid me with bad credits.
Whew did not happen logged in with no issues

What exactly constitutes a "ban" ? Can't play for a month? Can't login with your account? Permanent?

And you think anyone exploits with their main account? They grab a disposable account, exploit until its colsed down and then grab another disposable account to replace it... all the while offloading the fruits of their labors to their "real" accounts. If policy was to not ban people receiving credits (or other exploited items) then their policy has no balls and will do nothing to curtail this behavior.

It sucks for people who get caught in the net, and there needs to be a clear structure around an system for appealing (not email this black hole or PM someone on a message board you can no longer access), but its needed.

Hmmm, guess this means I should hold off on transferring credits between accounts for a few days, huh? I'm set to recieve about 7mill in legitimate creds from a friend who's quitting the game.

Kinda sucks. How are smugglers to know where their customers credits come from when selling FP? How is ANYBODY to know?!?

I've had to deal with Devs on a number of issues (mostly around harvesters and such) and what I've found is, unlike another MMORPG I play where they have no idea what is going on in their virtual world around them, the team here seems to be able to pull pretty specific information from their logs when one is having a problem. It seems to me that you could follow the money transfer and then look at behaviour between the two 'players'. yes, it would be more time-consuming, but it would limit the chance of banning someone who did nothing more than run a vendor that was bought out. If you find someone who was duping and who transfered that cash to 40 or 50 people, it's a fair bet they were just trying to grief everyone around them knowing the outcome. If, OTOH, this individual is transfering money every day to the same 2 or 3 other people, it's a fair bet that they are cheating and offloading their ill-gotten gains on friends or a primary account. So the real question is, how seriously does SOE take its playerbase and their time in the game? They take it seriously enough to ban people, but that's easy. Do they take it seriously enough to investigate and offense fully is the real question.

Ban can be whateer for of non play SOE wishes to put on this. Not ban cases of cheating liek this are ban-for-life type of deals. Since they could be banning innocents which are simply hard to prove if you are or not they might go slightly less on a case by case complaint of the bans but most of them can kiss their accounts goodbye.
Basically most games run under a CSR format of CSR response to trouble maker... 1-3 verbal warnings (depends on what the trouble make is doing and the personal opinion of the CSR)... 1 boot/removal (simply is a kick from the game system but you are allowed to come right back in, usually the 3rd to last thing that happens before a ban in many games)... the 2nd and last things that are done come together, those being a macro responce of your in volation of TOS/ROC and are being ban blah blah blah... then comes another macro right on top of that since some idiots think they can run and log out before and the CSR can do anything to them, which boots and bans they account from relogging in. Depending on the company the CSR or the Sup. of the CSR upon having read or filed the action will decide how long the idiot is ban from using the game. These range from 1 day to 2-3 to 5-7 to severals weeks to a month to total ban. Total ban usually bans not only the credit card but also the person's name and address from being allowed access to making a new account.
