Anyone who has been a a good group will know that crowd control is pointless because all you need are a bunch of damagedealers with healing and what you have are a bunch of people who ar invincible all the crowd controller does is mez for a second before he gets hit by a damage dealer and destroyed in seconds.
Crowd controllers have no role at all rendering smuggler's, which is now classed as a combat profession, as usless solo and in a team.
Your opinion of a 'good group' is not the be all and end all of 'good groups' my friend.
For example, if your smugglers are having trouble affecting large groups, they may want to take Novice Commando. An area effect concussion shot is a delight to behold! Target the group of concealed Riflemen and then see just how much damage they can do in over 40 seconds of being frozen to the spot... Muahahahahaaa!
Even ifthey don't take the area of effect route, equip a Blackhand Annihalator (range of 60m, who cares about the low damage, you're rooting people here...) and alternate a Concussion Shot / Panic Shot atseperate damage dealers.
Are you picking your targets properly? What is one of the best targets for a Smuggler to take out ofa PvPbattle for 40 seconds? A Healer! A fast smuggler with theright equipment can take one out of action every second. That's a massive advantage to your side.
And if your smugglers aregetting dropped quickly, they should use some appropriate armour, equip a Personal Shield Generator, buy some synthsteak, take Teras Kasi skills, take some medic skills, use Ruby Bliel/Stimpacks, make sure they are not the closest target to the Bad Guys for when they hit their Tab key... the list goes on. If that fails, then at least if the Bad Guys are shooting at your Smugglers, the Bad Guys are not shooting at the rest of youare they?
Smuggler is about intelligent application of disruption and deception, not brute force.
IMHO a 'good group' brings along a Smuggler to watch their backs for them.
Did I mention Smugglers rule? (and not just in group PvP).
Style over substance baby.

Keldarin - Balancing the Crowd-Control professions so they stack in a meaningful and useful way is defintely a goal. That said, the design of Crowd-Control does not immediately lend itself to easy stacking solutions. There are not any changes currently planned to address usefullness of multiple crowd-control player but we will be constantly analysing and adjusting as we can.
Just thought I'd randomly point out I'm glad that this was said/answered; it doesn't seem promising for anything short or medium term, but at least it shows that it's agreed that CC/mezzing isn't working as well as it could.

Ill admit to this. Crowd Control is pretty useless in large groups. But, when its just two or three guys, and you dont have a Primary Healer, theyre pretty useful. But other than that, were pretty useless. Smuggler was a lotbetter back when Concussion Shot didnt end when Damage was inflicted, and Low Blow was a Ranged KD that only worked half the time.... if that. I will never understand why they changed that. That was a great Special.
Still, i wont complain completely. When I solo, Smuggler actually comes in handy. As a RM, its pretty important that I can stay a long ways away from my target for maximum efficiency. So, Smuggler actually makes it possible that I can solo pretty much any Melee centric mob, without being hit once.
Then you would be admitting wrong or your squad just plain sucks. I fight in large groups nightly and I am a Commando Smuggler. Even tho I am the first target in the assault I tend to stay alive. Area Concussions ensure my survival and prioritization of attack targets based on threats to me keep the team winning.
I find your response to be without merit.

You missed the point. Grinding groups consist basically of 1-2 Jedi spinning next to the lair and attacking/aggroing every critter at once. It doesn't matter if you mez just 1 or all critters since the mez won't last the next spinning attack. This might not be an ideal situation, but it is the way grinding is being done at the moment and it makes mezzing quite obsolet.
Who said anything aboutgrinding groupswith 1-2 Jedi tanking?
Theoff-topic topic (which probably belongs in another thread to be honest) was PvP groups. Besides, how much fun is grinding with 1-2 Jeditanking at the base of a lairanyway? I thought the term 'grinding' was a derogatory one, indicating a dull and overly long exercise.
Picking on a lair isn't very challengingso I can understand why a Smuggler wouldn't be interested in that sort of thing. Especially with a 1-2 Jedi tank set up...
If you want XP then why not hit Necrosis, the DWB, a GCW base, or a Corvette or three? You can havea laugh withnew mates and old, get great loot, socialise and gain XP all atthe same time.
Much more fun ![]()

Didn't both Tiggs and JFreeman say that there would be no single profession revamps?
When is the last time a dev told the truth in this game?
Man, that made me LOL so hard I almost spit out my coffee!

First of all, no one cares whether you find merit in anything I or anyone esle saysor not. Second, whats with the attack on me? I never said anything about we had a difficult time. I never brought that up. I dont have a problem with my template, or who I decide to team with. I merely stated that sometimes, as a Smuggler.... Im just not needed. I never said I had a hard time staying alive. Furthermore, I maintain what role I DO have as a Smuggler, quite nicely. All Im saying is that if I or any Smuggler werent in the group, the group could still manage. Take away that healer though, and they will probably die, even with the Smuggler. Take away that Nuke (which is also me, but Ill get back to that) and theyre screwed, even with the Smuggler.
Im a Smuggler/Rifleman. I can solo pretty much anything I need to as long as it isnt unreasonable. Smuggler and Riflemen compliment each other very well. And when its just me, Smuggler comes in handy. But when Im in a group of three or more. I hardly ever use my Smuggler abilities, simply because they arent needed. Heres what Im getting at. Yeah sure, I could Mez them to hell and back, but why do that when theyll be dead in less than 10 seconds? Its a waste of Action! Thats not to say I dont use it in an "OH CRAP!!!" situation. But then again, people dont use Self Heal unless in dire need. Smuggler in my Template is nothing more than a secondary utility Profession when it comes to combat. Thats because thats what it was designed to be - utility.
Commando is borked. The players know this. The Correspondants know this. And the Devs know this. It may work okay for what its worth, but its nowhere up to par of what a Profession should perform like. Its the only Profession that is completely dependent on another Profession for it to simply function. Even Smuggler isnt as bad off. And in essense, you arent saying Commando and Smuggler is a good match up. Youre really saying Smuggler abilities go well with Commando AoE weapons. The truth of the matter is, Smuggler goes well with anything, because its a utility Profession as Ive said. That still doesnt change the fact that Smuggler, and Crowd Control.... simply are not needed. Do they help? Sure. Will they replace another Nuke or Healer? No way.
Furthermore, there are a zillion different areguements tha someone could bring up to counter this. And I could probabyl counter those in retrospect. Tha still doesnt change the fact that if something is dead, they dont need to be Mezzed.
Anyways, not that you should care. I can tell youre WAY too high up on your own pedistal to listen to or understand anythign I would say.

Brekkee - *Anon4881* At this years Fan Fest, a video was shown that strongly hinted at Player Capital Ships. When will more information on these ships be released?
Rogue_5 - The video was a technology test straight from a developer's desk that we decided to share with the Fan Fest attendees. It does not necessarily represent anything we are currently doing with the game.
BS! BS! I knew it! BS! BS! Capital Ships are BS! BS!

Neif - Phaelyn, Squad Leader and Ranger are two key professions that we're singled out as needing change to become more compelling and useful professions. That said, we are looking at doing more profession revamps after these two. Expect some great changes to other professions in the future.
