I agree...but that is not whatwas said in explainingthe reason for these being non-tradeable. Spamming the sale of said items is specifically what was referred to as diminishing the "special" value of the items...and thus thereason that the items are beingmade non-tradeable

It wouldn't.
If they can't get it implemented with the slicing changes, then why would they now?

I can tell you why they would...because someone else asked for it instead of us. Nevermind that we've asked for that for over 2 years. They'll put it in because it came from "the masses" and not us.

If we were still able to slice the item if it was our own, then I would applaud the move. Only because it would be to our benefit. It would mean Smugglers would have an edge when facing an opponent with the same weapon.

Hey, I know how to fix this the right way.

How about we give CRAFTERS SOMETHING TO CRAFT?

Silly me, logic. I'll stop.

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

Since we're already on the subject... how about a separate "not to be traded"slot in the existing trade windowsimilar to the one used in WoW for enchanting items, which is in essense what slicing is. The purpose of such a window would be to slice a non-tradable item, open locked containers (without the smuggler being able to swap contents- which I have been accused of),and to prevent unscrupulous smugglers from just making aquick getawaywith the traded item.

Ok, first, I agree with Veela. 100%.

Secondly, though I know it will just bring more negativity, did some testing. The weapons CAN be dropped in a house, but like the Hero marks, can only be picked up by the owner. So no workaround. Also doesn't work in droids.

It would be great to slice in the trade window, and should have been designed that way.
Would eliminate stolen goods.

I imagine it's a bit tricky to implement though, since the changes must be previewed in the trade window, then applied only after both parties agree to the price and changes.
It shouldn't be overly difficult, but I'm not a coder either.
Probabilities that I see are that each item must sliced separately, and each level separately, meaning many trades to get 100% customization.
Not good for a suit with a nontrusting customer, but fine for just one piece sliced once or twice.
You know this is what would happen, rather than recode the slicing system again, they'd make it one slice per trade window.

Honestly, I just realized how much this slicing system sucks (I haven't done much since the change).
I don't mind the tools, though some are rare.
If they had made the system a set of check boxes like the Slicing Assistant by SonGouki, it would be perfect. Blacking out boxes that you don't have the skills/tools for and letting you choose everything at once instead of having to slice an item up to 5 times each.
Lets see, that comes to up to 35 slices for a whole suit of armor.
Wow, that sure sounds like fun to me.
They obviously don't think things through too well.
I'd rather have the old random system back and have only FANs then spend 30 minutes slicing a suit of armor.

Bug fixes. Heh! Smuggling. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things.

My SWG Observations

If they stopped the expansions for one year and gave quality revamps to the professions that need it most, many people would resubscribe.
With all the resubs, and the new players, there would then be plenty of money to hire enough people to do 2-4 quality revamps per year plus 1-2 larger expansions per year and/or 2-4 smaller expansions per year, and not give the BigWigs a pay cut. (Possibly even an increase)

This really ticks me off. I bought this game because it was a MMOG, with all the potential for community role-playing that implied. While I do occasionally enjoy traditional RPG"S, the thing I've always hated about them was the lack of ability to interact with other people. The reason I continue to play this game and pay the high costs is because of that interaction. And now they are finding ways of limiting that interaction (lack of ability to trade/craft/slice items) and totally killing my immersion. Sure, spammers are annoying. But they are REAL. Spammers actually make this game more immersive for me...I love stepping out into the MO and suddenly seeing hundreds fo text ballons, tons of ads, etc. The MO is by far the most intersting "city" on my server because of this...it kind of feels like stepping out of a plane into any major airport.

Advertiseing, selling, these are major facts of life in any human society. Making these rewards quest only brings this game game closer and closer to being just another average computer RPG.

I would also like to point out that in Episode IV, Luke sells his speeder at a starport. Thus making the selling and trading of items an official part of SW cannon.

More detailed thoughts on this and a more coherant argument in thepost below:

This entire "non-tradeable" thing is silly.

Come to think of it, why do we even have weapons and armor as quest rewards? Isn't that the point of crafters? isn't loot supposed to be items that are useful to crafters?

A rollback is coming, perhaps. We can't be sure, and the mods totally deny it, but IMO, that makes it all the more likely. Hang in there, it could come at any moment... All we've worked for may soon come to fruition...

Tried this myself. I can open the pack that it's in but I can't take the item out of the pack. I can't move the pack at all either. It's 110% fool proof for reasons that I'm sure the NDA is keeping me from saying. Just trust me on this, if it could be exploited, things would get out of hand in a huge, huge way.

heh, make them so they can only be traded through a smuggler and only after travelling to another planet.

situation:

"A" hands item to Smuggler on Tattooine

Smuggler flies to Corellia

Smuggler trades item to "B" on Corellia

wait, that would make us moderately useful....

The change has been made to make the majority of items now bio-link and tradeable, or simply just tradeable.
