I have yet to reach Master Smuggler, but I've been playing with some numbers in preparation. What do you guys think of this?

300c per %

Less than 20% is free

Unwanted slice type, half off.

That gives the customer a break on bad slices, and hopefullybalances out the higher payout for the excellent slices.

Thoughts?

Well, for me, my charges differ depending on the weapon...I cant see charging 10-12k on a 30% spd slice on a scout blaster, ya know? But I charge that much or more for high-end krayt weapons.....my customers are always happy....so, I would charge 3k for a scout blaster and such, 6-8k for a good power hammer, etc. Its a good system for me.

I for one charge a flat rate of 5k per item <we don't say slicing .. it's illegal you know>.

I am totally in favor of increasing the rate of this, combined with the aurguments of the doc buff, and what price you charge on "pre--sliced armor and weapon" <how do they get away with advertising this .. its illegal you know ..> I do feel we are little workers in some sweat shop off in a far away land with no cable TV. Working for bare minimum wage. I would like to stick with a flat rate as it causes less confusion and their item has been improved no matter what the outcome.

I will not "fix" any wep/armor unless the person rp's with me while doing it. This typically runs off those who would complain about my services. Most even enjoy the rp and have commented that they perfer to come to me as they dislike the "/yell Slicing ... 3k per item!!". So I have, by actually "playing" my character have sifted throught the cheapskates.

Some ppl will be cheap as cheap can get .. even if they have money .. just in their nature. Don't blame them .. just ignore them ...

I am in favor of upping the flat fee to 6k or 7k per item. I give no discounts to bulk orders. My time, my money.

just my 2 credits ~~~

Flat rate 10k.

Everyone needs to embrace that.

I see your point here, but what I also see is that the only difference between the guy with the scout and the guy with the krayt, is that the guy with the Krayt will not only be 10 times happier then the scout for a good slice , but he'll also be 10 times as dissappointed for a less-than-average slice.

Plus the guy with the scout is most likely a noob. Break him in early and charge him top dollar

I feel you seriously undervalue your service between 15-29%. Hmmm paying 5-10k for a sub 20 slice does not seem reasonable to me, I do not want to overcharge people, I just want what we think is fair. I don't care if you charge 25k the point is I don't want people running around charging 2k for everything, but people have the right to charge whatever they want. What do you charge at that range?

You'll find it in another thread on this Forum. But once again.

19% or lower - 5k

20% or higher - 10k.

I think 5k for a sub 20 slice is fine. It's an improvement that wouldnt have had normally, and then theres my time, and the equipment I've used. Maybe it's just Flurry's market, but I've only ever had two complaints, and they were told to hit the bricks.

Let me also say I have a sliding scale besides the 10k I use.

If I'm in a good mood, I'll offer the scale first.

11-24% slices for 5k
25-34% slices for 10k
35-45% slices for 15k

I think having it
11-20
21-30
31-45 would be nice also. I may change it soon...

Flat Fee. Flat Fee.

Its random...you get what you get.

The resulting percentage doesn't change how much time, effort, and resources I used to perform my services. Nor do I have any control over the result.

We usually see doc buff prices vary depending on duration and ham increase, but docs have the ability to make better buffs. We don't. It;'s totally random.

You get what you get.

I generally charge a flat fee of 10k which most on Starsider laugh at and go elsewhere. I actually make most of my money from slicing mission terminals. I can go run 27k credit missions on Dantooine or slice the terminal and get 40k credit missions. An extra 13k per mission is nothing to scoff at and the last time I looked 13k is worth more to me then 100cc per % or even the 10k someone might pay me. I may just up my pricing to 20k cause I see no point in slicing for 10k if I can run missions for an extra 13k on top of the 27k. So if your frustrated with people undercutting slicing prices and you can't get any business just go run some sliced solo group missions on your favorite planet.

Sigh...

Making it simpler by charging a flat rate can drive people away, or could just hurt yourself by not charging enough.

I have been using the 200cr per % method and its working great. Until someone mentioned that slicing higher and lower end weapons should be different. I sliced a NS pike today with a mind bleed?, i can't really remember...but it was a good slice and the guy payed about 1%of the cost of the weapon to enhance it by 20-30%, again I don't remember how good it was. But what seems to be troubling me is the fact that no matter how I charge, someone will always want it different. It's the nature of the beast. The more we try to make it 'fair' to the smugglers, the more complicated the pricing gets. But the simpler we make it to price, the more times we rip ourselves off. I don't think there is anything that can be done untill the revamp comes out, and gives us CONTROL of the slicing to a certain degree. But, thanks to the devs that won't happen untill AT LEAST January of 2005.

Weapons
max damage x slice %

Armor
(5 x base eff) x slice %

Seems the fairest and most reasonable pricing to me

There are some very interesting theories and ideas here. I dont see any of them being perfect, but I dont see any of them as bad either. I guess Im old school and I'm still slicing at 200cpu/% regardless of the outcome. Meaning... that occassional 15% slice we all get once in a blue moon, I can charging customers for it and none seem to complain. The weapon is still 15% better than what it was before the slice. I guess I just feel that my earnings should be relevent to my performance, even if it is completely random. Often times, I get tipped more than what I charge. One thing I have been contemplating recently is a sort of sliding scale for those high end weapons. Like most other smugglers, I feel that if someone pays 500K for a weapon and my slice makes that weapon 31% better, my slice should be worth more than 6200. Im still not sure how I want to handle this yet, and I dont want to drive customers away by not conforming to what everyone else is better. Especially, as I've just recently learned that Im regarded as one of the best slicers on the server I play on.

One thing I can say for certain, a smuggler is bound to make more if he/she tells the customer the result of each slice. Customers freely pay more when they know exactly what it is they are paying for, rather than just being told, "your total is 15000," and handing back their items.

You guys have to stop looking at slicing like its gathering food. Good slicing is not an intro level item for a novice, and its notlike our profession is loaded with othernice skills besides slicing...

And I find it funny how many people here care about the customer, they already bought what they wanted, Armor/Weapon, now they want to tweak, unlike buffs, our tweaking is permanent bonuses so stop using the idiot Doctor Buff comparison!

Stop feeling sorry for people who you give a 16% slice to, because a 16% increase is still higher than it was originally. What is this smuggler or daycare? And if you tell me my attitude will hurt business, take to my bank account, cause the money just keeps rolling in.
