Because if you were around long enough to be in this game you're probably a smuggler, because we're masochists.

That and everyone wants to see if they can actually be Han Solo.

Has it occured to anyone that maybe our community had a vested interest in the space expansion? I remember when JTL was first announced and the smuggler revamp again put off someone (with a red name) saying that smuggler was always "intended to be a space-based profession". So the reason we had somewhat silly skills on the ground was that we weren't meant to be ground-based. With that in mind, many of our ilk likely frantically banged on the 'sign up for beta' button in the hopes of seeing a glimpse of what this 'space-based' profession would look like now that space was here.
how that turned out, I'll leave to the imagination and rantings of those wishing to break their NDA .

I too noticed this. I personally took Master Tailor so I didn't havta wear noob clothes and I also too Master Shipwright so I, well you get the idea. I think it's kinda silly seeing ppl running around asking for others to make ships for them.

I don't think the recent influx of Smugglers is limited to the betaservers. Back on Nartius, for example, I've noticed a few new M.Smugglers (enough to usually have around 5 MS in Coronet during primetime). Perhaps there is a shift from everyone wanting to be *Insert your favorate fairy-$#*(& Jedi* to everyone wanting to be Lando, Han or Chewbacca with the introduction of Starships in Beta4.

I thought it was "You're not truly a masochist unless you are a smuggler" but I could be mistaken.

Well, you have to remember something about the JTL Beta. They pick players from every server, not just one or two. You may see a lot of Smugglers running about, but how many of those actually play on your server? Id say there are about 10K people in Beta right now, not sure but a guess. There may be more, may be less, I dont know. But just factor in that thats only 10K people in all the 500K or so SOE says they have who actually subscribe to the game. You see lots of Smugglers around? Well, thats nothing. It only seems that way because there are so few people actually ont he server. Worry not friend, itll be okay.
