For me its far from dead, I still enjoy the hell out of playing. I just got a third account toplay diferent professions. But for the most part its walking around carrying a DE10 and just being a smuggler. I know for myself I need to have ingame goals to keep myself interested, Currently its working on FS skills on my Main andmy crafter and pilot on my main. I'm also working on my explorer badges. The game is what you make it.

...and if so how can rez it?
I've been reading that WoW and EQ2 would kill SWG since I started playing a year and a halfago. Now that they are out I don't know how right or wrong the nay sayers were.
In any case- What do my fellow Smuggler's think and what 3 things do you think need to happen to save it?

1. A working CU
2. A full indepth GWS re-vamp (lets see every imp in strong st armor or uniform)
3. Meaningful profession re-vamps thatlet a player to move away from grinding and as a master of his/her profession dive into "the life" of the game.

I think an interesting statistical analysis would be to divide the player base into people for whom Galaxies was their first MMORPG, and those who were weaned on earlier ones, then see who is leaving, and who is staying, out of each group.
Anyway, I know quite a few people who are playing WoW. Most of the people I know personally, that are into WoW, can be divided into 3 categories. People who play MMO's solely for the RP aspect, people who play solely for PVP, and people who enjoy both equally. The one's who enjoy PVP have almost entirely jumped ship for WoW. The people who enjoy RP have tried WoW, and come running back /screaming and /flailing, and /ROFLing. The people who like a balance of the two are playing both games. From what I hear, pvp in WoW is fun, fast, and pretty much balanced. Word from everyone is also that the game's depth leaves much to be desired.
Any of you who have been around long enough (you know who you are) know that PVP in Galaxies has the potential to be incredibly fun. For a while, it was.
And Galaxies has bar none the most complex and rich environment for people who don't like waving their glowy shafts at people. Housing, a complex and enjoyable player driven economy, player cities, with bars, theaters, banks, stores, npcs, etc. Crafting isn't some side hobby for when you're bored with killing people, it's a bona fide career. Entertainers had a place in the game, and will again in time, and right now is one of the best professions for socializing.
I was told by someone in the WoW beta, that people playing WoW snidely referred to SWG as "Sims With Guns." First, Let me just say how mature everyone that plays WoW must be. And second, SFW? WoW must be French for Just run around and kill things, then. Sure, there's the Simsonline aspect of social interaction, but as was pointed out, there's also combat, and if you enjoy it, plenty of it. And any MMO worth its salt IMO, should have a great deal of social interaction.
There are people in this game that have never gone into a state of combat. There are seasoned players with NO badges, NO mastered professions, NO guild, All they have is a biography that's long and detailed.
This game is not dead, the worst that could ever happen is that all the c0ck-knockers that nobody likes anyway will drop their accounts, and the game will turn into the rich RPG it was supposed to be to begin with.

Well, I think- If all these people DO gravitate to these other games- it might be easier to get some serious role play outta the remaining people.
I haven't logged on much myself recently but that's because my time priorities have shifted from the game and onto other things. Now that I'm starting to play a lil' bit again I'm mostly in space. I haven't even tried to rejoin my guild (which recreated itself when JTL came along).
I guess I'm really laying low till the GCW and CU revamps come along- but secretly I really am excited for a smuggler revamp that may or may not ever happen.
Indeed, I think the quality of gaming life has increased since many power gamer hav left, and roleplay is like, the last thuingi left for many, and since i dont have any intrest in MMOrpg, i have na interest in Star Wars, that menas Great tiems ahead... !! Wooo hooo
