A little while ago,I helped some friends defend their base and they are perfect for this sort of thing. There were a good 10 or so smugglers and many more Bounty Hunters so we pulled out the droids and some kept them inside the base, others kept them on the sides of the walls. At the last moment, when the imperials were pouring in, and there were a lot of them, we detonated the droids, and man, it was insane. Most of us had high quality ones that were hitting for about 2-3k in PvP. The imperials were just leveled. They are great if you use a good strategy with them.

They are greart, but there is a learning curve. these critters got me killed two days ago...

If you are attacking, nothing is better to start the fight then sending in a few droids and make em go boom, two MSE can usually incap an unarmored, buffed player, or a wook, it also creates great confusion

My friend (Master DE, Master Pistoleer/DF) and I were able to take down 5 players and a pet by using the droids as opening attack.

I died two days ago because then I was on defense, and spent too much time with that blasted droid when I should have been panic shooting/intimidating.

IMO it is also good as a suicide measure, I always have the droid following me untill I find a target, but if 3 or 4 dirty rebs jump me, I'll set it off (I'm toast anyhow, the blast might wear those rebs down enough for my friends to finish em)

Has anyone ever tried taking down the Acklay with boomdroids, while standing right behind the entrance? I think it might work if you have enough

In short, I still have a lot to learn but IMO they can make a real difference in PVP

Can you be inside a building say a cantina and blow one up thats outside or do you have to be in LOS and will the blast hurt you through a wall?

Blasts do not go through walls, but you do not need LOS

And to add to the 'sneaky' factor, the /tellpet option works just as it does with any other droid or pet. So no need for shouts or spatial clues as to what you are up to.

Ok so as I understand the only requirements for detonation are to be in detonating range- meaning I could be in the basement of a 2 story and be able to /detonate droid when its on the first story of a building seprated by elevator?

Far as I know, yes. Seems SWG doesn't have dead spots for radio frequency coverage. WOOT!!!

i was using some mouse droids and found they could get blowed up quickly in a fight.

luckily a panicshot-peace kept my droids alive long enough to detonate. go figure, a new use for panic shot

but they are very hard to find, so it's hard to get an opinion. i like them a lot, just need to get more.

I've been considering getting schematics made for these... but the DE that offered me a deal at 100k for 500 (or was it 1000) use schem, dropped DE to go fight.

After looking at the expenses, they can be made at 1500-2000 cr each incl power and maint on the factory. That assumes you use junk to make the droid (as it wont last long anyway), and spend all your creds on good Tolium, but still get it at a 7cpu stealfor an average of4-5cpu. DEs like to drive the price through the roof, however, which shoots themselves in the foot, IMO. A DE will charge 1000% markup (seen it myself!), if you let em, so watch those bomb prices! Its like spice before the price deflated- and I hope it pops soon! If I could get em reasonably at 3k-4k each in a crate of 10, I'd use em.

Right now there's only junk tolium only on starsider. The good thing about it is it makes the droids cheap, the bad thing is I expect very low-quality damage output atm.
