There were no dinosaurs. The fossil record is a conspiracy. The real question is...who put those fossils there...and why?

I did like that bit. I'll have to re-read the series before the movie hits, but I'm kinda afraid the movie will only vaguely resemble the books.
See: Starship Troopers. Fun movie, but bore little or no resemblance to the outstanding story of the same name.
Well technically Douglas Adams wrote the script... so any dissimilarity to the books/radio/tv/tv/videogame/anything elseis probably just because each of those is different from each other as well lol.

Ah.. that's an easy one.
The maghellans (if I recall correctly) made the Earth as an assignment by some beings (incorporated as mice on the same Earth) to be run as the Ultimate Computer.
